200ts - I assume you are asking me, not Hammertime about PE12?
PE is a measuring standard of braid thickness used by the Japanese mainly, and is spreading to the rest of the world....
Rather than measure the breaking strain of braid, which often way overtests, Japanese braid manufacturers use a thickness rating known as PE.
Basically, PE will corrolate to a breaking strain for example:
PE 3 - Usually equals about 30lb breaking strain.
PE 4 - Usually equals about 40lb breaking strain.
etc etc....
However, with recent developments in the technology of creating these lines, the breaking strain is becoming much higher for the PE rating...
For example, YGK Ultra Jigman in PE 3 has an average breaking strain of 44lbs rather than 30lbs
Similarly, YGK Ultra Jigman in PE 6 has a average breaking strain of 86lbs rather than 60lb, but is still only PE 6 thickness.... Know what I mean?
PE 12 on these lines, can measure anything up to 170lbs breaking strain, and is what alot of the heavy GT opping guys are using for monster fish in super shallow water....
Most jigging and popping rods will be rated with optimum Jig weights for jigging sticks ( eg: 250 gram rod will fish 180 to 340 gram jigs well ) and a PE rating which is the recommended line class ( eg: 250 gram rod will usually have a PE 2 to 4 rating )
Popping rods will have a optimum and max lure weight (Eg: 140 to 220 gram ) and a PE recommendation ( eg: PE 6 to 8 rating.. )
