MCM to step up their game in PE

A friend of mine had a long chat with a senior MCM official yesterday and this is what came up.

MCM is in the prosess of instaling CCTV cams at all the registered fish buyers in PE. This comes from alot of guys being caught at these factories while selling fish illegaly. They are also planing to install cams at all the luach sites by the end of the year. All this is to combat guys on boats that go beyond their bag limit and sell fish to the factories to make up for feul cost.

I think its a very good idea, i just hope they do man these cams 24h a day. I would also like to see them doing the same to certain shore hotspots like blougat.

How will a camera check up the quantity the boat has on it?? Or check under the seats or check the fish hatch??
Maybe I'm missing something here.

I think the cams at the luanch site are there to identify the boats witch probably fish for a living with no comrecial permit. If they know witch boats to target their changes of catching them will be much higher, either waiting for them at the slip or on the water. I also believe it will be to work out patterns that the pearlies use, witch boats they use etc.

As to the cams at the factories, MCM know who are allowed to sell fish and who not, i think its also to stop the factories from buying from recriational fishermen. If a factory is cuaght they could get very heavy fines and loose the license aswell.
