I have just got back from a trip to Oz where the boys psend much time trying to land a marlinf from the stones. If you get offshore winds there one could use the Aussie method of gas ballooning using a skip bait. Looks like there is definitely potential. It would take a dedicated crew to work out just what that potential would be.

Don´t really think targeting the Blues here would realistically work has well as it does for Blacks in Australia and elsewhere. Have read and talked to a few people about the way they target those in OZ and one could under certain circumstances do it from Baz…don´t think it would work here. Blues & Blacks are a world apart...
I have actually never heard of a blue being caught from shore, but would love to know if anyone does know of one.
That fish actually took the boat grander in as opposed to heading out to sea as they normally do…don´t think you would hook them as close as that very often & there certainly are a few other reasons why it would just not work here.
Was meaning to post some pics from yesterday´s fish but just got back from sea & pretty knocked and an early and big day ahead of us tomorrow…

After yesterday´s great bite it was pretty slow & dissapointing on the grounds today with only Hawk Eye getting a double header but, from what I have heard, got tangled and broke both off

Well another 4[sup]th[/sup] July and NADA for us
….but hey will keep on trying:temp:. Pretty slow day in Madeira, a small fish released and a visiting Spanish boat hooked up around 1pm, they still fighting the fish as I write this but might not be BIG enough as it looked like the fish died deep.
At the moment the Happy Hooker in Cape Verde is pretty much in the hot seat with a 1097 lbs…:fst:
Pretty good fish which I reckon will be quite a feat for Hawaii to beat…will report and post pics tomorrow.
Even thought we did not do it this year, still going out to celebrate!!!

Yeah Tkei, its a tought mean restless ocean out here...you must have seen it today, more like a electric blue water lagoon...well maybe it was was, along with the few boats fishing we did not see a fin today! Well, except the Hawk Eye who sneaked::teas:: in a good 900 pounder release right in front of town, that is about 2 miles from the marina!!!
The guys fishing for tuna, pulling some jets on light leaders down long also saw some action. A boat from Calheta had a double header down the west end and landed one. The Margarita also got two Big eye´s, the biggest going 115 KG.
Tkei, it’s not only last year that broke the slower spell in Madeira, it is actually the 4[sup]th[/sup] straight season that Madeira is once again producing some World class Giant Blue Marlin Fishing. That is why I started to come here 2 years ago. Actually, so far, this season has been a tad slower than what I experienced the last two years.

Another hard working day in the pound…check out the big swell & ravaging winds!!!
The guys fishing for tuna, pulling some jets on light leaders down long also saw some action. A boat from Calheta had a double header down the west end and landed one. The Margarita also got two Big eye´s, the biggest going 115 KG.

Well, here´s a small wrap up of the 26[sup]th[/sup] Annual Blue Marlin World Cup…
The bite had really fired up on the 2[sup]nd[/sup] in Madeira with 4 class fish being released on the day and a few more seen, hooked and lost. The next day was pretty slower but it kicked up in the canaries with some boats getting up to 5 and 6 shoots on the day.
Well the big day saw 11 boats plying the Madeira waters for their shoot at a giant Blue that would put them on the money:dapp:!!! Most crews decided to work the Girao and ribeira brava area that had produced all the fish two days before…this place is never really busy but one could definitely feel a bit of traffic and decided to stay closer to town away from the mob…
