License & freshwater predators

Hi guys,

Further to my post about surf fly fishing near Cape Town, I'd quite like to catch the odd freshwater species if possible (catfish - is this what you call barbel?, or any other predators really).

Could you reccomend a place, preferably near Fish Hoek as this is where I'll be staying mainly.

Also, do I need a license or permit to fish for freshwater species?

Much appreciated, Gareth.

Hi Gareth

There is a area not too far from Fish Hoek called Lakeside and there are quite a few Barble in upper parts of Sandvlei, i have personally seen a couple been landed, i also know of them been caught on fly in the same area.

I dont know about the licence though!

Hi Gareth,

Welcome to sealine.

There are many freshwater species available in the Cape - unfortunately I donot fish that part of the country much so I would would be ill advised to give you what to do.

Suggest you try and get hold of CHris Shelton (Sealiner) as he seems like an avid flyfisherperson living in that neck of the woods. If you get up to the JHB area maybe I could show you a thing or two.

Ciao' for now
