Remember catching some between the Seal Island and Roman Rock, on bait, mixed with a few big tail and kob, had my old friend Steven Keanly as crew, but I think that must have been in the early 1980's. Think Steven still has a photo of those fish.
Small world Alan, i was in Kenya with Steven a few weeks ago.... we fished together for 4 days in the Captain Morgan!

I had to buy him 8/0 VMC hooks for that trip.

How does that work, thought he said that tackle was so cheap and readily available in Bahrain! How did you get the hooks to him though?

Friend of his was on holliday here and he took the hooks back, also got a couple of exage rods for him last year also taken back by friends,  its only the things he can't get there that he gets via here.

He bought my old ski-craft from me when he was still in Cape Town, fitted two brand new 30 hp Yamaha's, used the boat two or three times, then he was transfered to JHB, and then Bahrain, so the boat has been standing in his garage in JHB for six years

Had a great time fishing with him in Kenya!!!

What a waste of that boat....... should chat to him and find out if he does not want to get rid of it, although all that standing cant be too great for those engines!

He mailed me the other day saying that there is a pic in the new ski boat magazine of his new Cat, have you seen it?

I asked him about the boat a while ago, he says he wants that for his Cape Town boat and the other boat for Mozambique.
Last time I fished up there with him and Schaulk they were talking about buying property on the main land side of Hells Gate at Inhaca, and spending the summers down here and there winters up there.

What a life that would be, i am however sure that he wont want to be fishing on a "little" boat anymore after fishing on that new ship they have!

Schaulk was also one of our team members in Kenya, Derek Kaplan was the 4th member.

@Rob.

Has the market been able to absorb this deluge of Snoek?

I cannot remember in my lifetime there being this much Snoek around. Must have been great for the poorer households being able to buy fresh fish in these more difficult times.

Ja, without a problem............just the pricing that fluctuates hugely due to demand. We also Import approx 6000 mt (rough guess, we alone do about 2000 mt per year) from NZ, and that hardly even affects the fresh boat pricing these days.
