[Tuna fish]

Well if i had any doubt of what fly fishing had to offer well this last weekend put that to rest !!!! I was invited to fish a couple of private dams up in the Kouebokkeveld and with the two cold fronts that were hitting the cape i was not exspecting much,Well dam i was in for a rude awakening!The fishing was really tough but was some of the most enjoyble and technical fishing i have ever done ....i never knew you could through everything including the kitchen sink and still be left dumb founded.Well after about a 100 different fly selections i finally found what the fish were looking for .....a size 16  dark brown flash back nymph suspended under a olive green DDD and this little combo seemed to rattle some fins as the fish were on it like a bar fly to his locals happy hour. After few fish missed due to an inpatient and over eager person on the other end and  then.... i saw pink - white - pink and fish on and all that time in rain and wind and cold was forgotten as my fly line peeled to its backing and beyond leaving one very happy but nevous Flyfisherman on the other end as i had resorted to a 6X tippet due to the water clarity being so good.Well after what felt like eternity one times fat 5lbs rainbow hen was flapping in my net and after a pic and a tickle was sent back to where she had come from leaving me shaking like a leaf ......and that is some thing that only fishing can do to a man!

Do any of you guys know of a good fly tying vise as i am wanting to start tying my own flys any advise would be welcome as i have heared if you dont buy the right vise you are only going to have problems!!

These Kouebokkeveld venues, are they Private Stillwaters, or open to the public?
Always looking for a new venue or two, as one gets bored with the limited venues down here in the Cape, and to go to the more commercially orientated venues, just iritate the hell out of me.

Unfortunatly in syndicated water, Thinking of stocking some of my own dams just need to find the right kind of conditions and farmers and Big dams!

Also tried that a while back - trying to get a farmer who would allow 6 of us to stock a dam with rainbows. Would be quite cool to be able to fish "your own water"

It does not matter what vice you get as long in is a Rotary vice. Try looking for the Danvice. It is a rotary vice that will sell for under R1000. If you are looking for something that will last you a lifetime you should go for a Renzetti. look on the net for the J-Vice. Also good quality and it is a South african company. The J-Vice and the Renzetti's start from about R2000 for their rotary vices. I must warn you. It is a very expensive hobby.

Frontier Flyfishing in ~JHB have entry level vices starting at R300 i bought one and they are not bad they do the job speak to Dean or Brett and tell them they better give you a good price or Deon will give them a snot Klap!! They stock all the materials to so give em a call on 011-4639048 and they will send what ever you need on road freight.

I still use a entry level vice but if you really going to tie alot you will replace it in the next 6 months. The Danvice is a big step up from the other entry level vices. The entry level vices don't grip the hooks that well espesially saltwater size hooks. If I were you I would save a little bit more and get me a half decent vice from the beginning.
