hey royboy, i owe you a call . . . sorry bud

getting ready to start packing this week end as have had a bit of a busy time lately.

i thought i was a bit wierd finding multiplier easier to use . . . maybe their drags aint same a as a stella 20k but that's what the glove is for:)

by the way am moving down to grahamstown in dec to put kids in schools there.

only 45 mins from some average to k@k spots around port alfred/kenton but that beats the vaal dam::teas::.

GL - Boet you just sound like a co-ord!! :) Hahahahaa!

Roy - Mate you are a little mistaken on the US prefernece for Overheads... I'd say for jigging its more of a 70/30 split in favour of SPinners, while NZ and Taiwan its 90/10 for the overheads....

But it all boils down to preference.... I am looking for a nice overhead set up to compliment my Spinners....

But The problem with overheads is weight... only reels for me that do it are the Small Accurates ( 197, 665 XN and 870XN ) and Shimano Ocea Jiggers..... Small, and light-ish, with half decent drags, but nothing like the Stella or Saltiga.

But jigging rythym takes practise.... I can comfortably jigging for hours at a time with my spinning set up... its all about timing and using the right jig weight for the rod....

Regarding the Blue Roses...... Talk to Mark, he'll hae some good news for you... Awesome looking rods though....

But I've decided, my next stick will be a Jigging Master, or one of Chris's rods.... My mind is made up!! :)

trini 16 is what i use as multiplier . . . not sure where the torsa slipped in.

i don't care what you say about the rhythm Nepps, grinders are heavier and make body sweat . . . off course if you jigging in 40m water catching yft you will be ok:rasta

Hahaha, Graeme you muppet...

Of course a Trini 16 is gonna be easier on the body.... but its not gonna stop a huge doggie..... unless you use your fingers of course....

Seriously though, practise makes it easy....whether you are jigging from the gimble or under arm... I very seldom jig from the gimbal, and only really do if the drift is SUPER fast and the jigs are not riding verically, but getting swept a long way back from the boat... otherwise its all Mechanical Jigging from under the arm...

ChrisW's video, Heavy Metal at Ranfurly, showed me alot about getting the rythymn of Mechanical Jigging right.... Not all about speed, but the 1:1 motion of dropping the rod and winding and raising the rod back to point A while completeing a single turn on the reel, the essence of MJ, takes some practise, but feels awesome once you have i down....

Check out this video, od Pony Liu of Jigging Master, klapping a 20 Kilo Doggie on a 100g JM Powerspell with a little Accurate 197. You can watch his easy action of jigging in the begiining of the vid.

Nepps, Chris where do I get that damn Heavy Metal Dvd from? Nobody has it up here in Gautieland. Heard a LOT about it, but need to see the thing.

I hear you Nepps, cousin - but I think the personal pref thing is a 4 sure. Diff strokes for diff folks. Can't help but feel more comfy with overhead myself, but that's probably because I am an old goat! Well sort of. Still have the biceps, but have developed a serious paunch over the last few years- perfect for softbelt with gimbal, and nice leverage for fish under pressure!!!!

That will be the PAIN point with the TRQ300, high retrieve.......with a big bugger on, it will be VERY difficult to crank line in. Something in 4.8:1 would be a bit easier.....

Regards reels,

On that subject, what about the Alutecnos Gorilla? VERY pricey, but Ooooooooh, what a piece of engineering?

That also spawns another discussion about retrieve speeds, single speed Vs double, Star Vs Lever drag, etc. etc. I see a whole new development in this area, with spare gears as aftermarket accessories depending on conditions to be fished etc.

Graeme, give me a shout boet - update me on the Nomad trip...(Bugger, Bugger, Bugger, jealousy.....)

Ah yes Nepps, we need to talk about Chris' rods as well. Very interested.

I am down next weekend (and Saturday will be at the Rocking the Daisies Festival) Soooooo, if by any chance you are in that neck of the woods - let's touch base.

Roy - Gimme a call mate... I will more than likely be in the deep with Mr HT over that weekend of Rockin the Daisies.... I was amped to do the festival, all my bros are going, but I got a Swedish crew in town shooting, so can't really do it.... but Saturday is a proposed down day, and if HT is running, I'll hopefully be decking.....

High Speed retrieves are defintely more on song for popping... need that low down gearing for dep jigging.... but unless you gonna be winching BIG fish, like YFT, I don't think it'll be too much of an issue....

The Altecnos is an awesome piece... AWESOME!!!! But pricey, and heavy! Beautiful though, as is all their gear...

Star drag vs Lever... shooo weee... ja, plenty to discuss.... Both have their strong points, and their faults.... The one draw back on lever drags is the loss of full freespool on some models when you really push the drag limits and crank them right up, whereas on a star you have infinite free spool no matter what you do to the drag....

Lets chat when you down mate, be lekker to see ya.
