Could you please post to pic.I went the other way. We all fish scratch proof HMG, Scratch Proof because it has no paint on the rod.
When I stripped my Saltist down to replace the drag and bearings I took some paint stripper to it which gives it a mat, dark aluminum finish.
The reel now matches the matt clean finish of my custom rod and won't be scratching anymore and being Aluminum there's no challenge with corrosion.
hannes101 - The side plate is also Aluminum but the coating is a thick layer that scratches easily.

The saltis is NOT a pure aluminium material, but rather a mix which has a 'plastic' materal mixed.
I stand corrected but the heat required from baking the powder coating or chroming will melt or warp the casing?
Shimano (Torium) has removable plates which can be replaced making your reel look brand new!
I fear that if you use your reel a great deal that the Carbontex drag washers will outlast your reel.
I've owned a Saltis for a year and it look worse than my now almost nine year old Toriums!
I was just about to tell you guys the same thing. I took off the side plate on my saltist and unfortunatly its some cheap ass easy scraching plastic material. But I'll find out tomorow, i'm sure there's someting that can be done.

Guys
The Saltist's side plate is aluminium, NOT plastic! Unlike the Torium which really has a cheap finish, Daiwa uses aluminium not graphite as used on the Torium.
At least you get what you pay for on a Saltist.
