Hiya Hanne101,

Knew I was right about the plates...advertising is an amazing thing!

I'm also looking forward to seeing the price...remember to ask the price for Joe Public.

You may be able to make your mate some $$ there are many buggered and scratched reels out there!

Check all my Shimano cuzzies pulled in !!!!  :::S

I'm talking about the Saltist. And I can promise you this, that graphite (Torium) isn't aluminium guys. The Daiwa's sideplates are noted as 'metal' if not aluminium, then what?

Very interesting thread this guys... I also wanna bling my SALTIST!

Just as an aside here...
Introducing Daiwa’s new Saltist™, with the features and rugged “Full-Metal Jacket” construction

Saltistâ„¢ Features:

  • Rugged, all-metal construction with rigid, one-piece aluminum frame [/*]
Weedeater is right... the SALTIST frame is definitely Aluminium, and the SIDEPLATES are METAL, NOT plastic. They have a plasticized coating on it, but underneath is METAL. (And in my opinion, METAL knocks the cr@p out of any Graphite in a fishing reel!. The bottom of the range SL Sealine range of Daiwa's is Graphite...!)

The TORIUM has a Graphite side plate on one side and a "stamped" aluminium (which is not real aluminium at all) on the other side.

Oh, by the way, the SALTIGA has ALUMINIUM SIDE PLATES -

Frame and sideplates machined from solid, aircraft-grade bar stock aluminum, hard anodized to prevent corrosion.

I never said that the Side plates were Aluminium, I actually wrote:

(The point being that they are metal and not plastic, nor inferior Graphite)

So for the time being, your testicles are safe.... but the Birthday Bash is coming, just don't bet anything on that !!!

Ai guys read here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium

only way you will settle this is, any who has an old saltist and torium lying around send it to my, I will take it to one of my foundry buddies and get it analysed on a spectrometor. the only way any one of you can be proven right or wrong.

Aluminium is an alloy which is a mixture of different materials such as copper, zink, silicon, varying them gives the aluminium properties in terms of tensile strenght, weight, scratch resistance etc. also make them differently whether it will be casted rolled or forged, but all of them will still be aluminium.

send me those body parts and I will get them analysed.
