Hi Bennie, I am new to the forum and have just started making lures. To date we have made a few from wood and have cast another few in urethane. I have 1.6 mm stainless wire but have been struggling to find 1.0mm. Could you let me know where I could find some? I know that you can but mig wire in that size but then you have to buy something like a 10 kg roll !!

I will airbrush a few this weekend and post some photos next week

Hi,
You are going to struggle with 1mm. But you will readily find 0,9mm. Your best bet is to get from any spring manufacturer. You can try Spring rite in New Germany or EE Tar also in Pinetown. They will straighten and cut to length for you. If you struggle, let me know and I'll give you some.

I look forward to seeing some of your work!

Hi Bennie. Here in PE is an old chap named Bertus Landman. He lived at Gamtoos river mouth. Many years ago, he made lures from broom sticks. They were very basic, but they were deadly. Even with all the paint knocked off they still landed monster cob, the action of these lures he tested to perfection. In the local pub is still some photos of the monsters he landed.

Awesome thread guys, especially Bennie! Really good info as always. Patrick, let me just say that the trailer tape is RETRO-reflective so it always reflects light back in the direction it came from. That's why it looks so cool in your car's headlights even if you are looking at a surface turned at an angle. But from other angles, without a light coming from the same direction as your eyes, it doesn't shine. Now the light will never come from the fish's eye, unless he's hitting your lure from the air with the sun at his back! So the fish will never see it shine. A "normal" kind of reflective tape would actually shine better for the fish where the light comes in from above and shines down into the water.

Bennie post 35 you have a mould.Do you use it to produce all lures after the master. If yes what material are you using for them.

cheers
Steve
Not really. 90% of my lures are 1 off lures and I reproduce very few of them.

The mould is made with Silicone. Mould Max 30 - http://www.amtcomposites.co.za/products/silicone-rubber/tin-cure/mold-max-series

Hi Everyone,
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the forum. Unfortunately, I do not respond to PM's. I would rather respond in the open forum for everyone's benefit...

Thanks
Bennie

Hi Bennie did you ever manage to find these in durban or pmb and did you ever try them. I still don't really have a system for eyes yet and this looks to be the easiest method for making 3D eyes.

jislaaik! Bennie this is a super tutorial! I am a beginner lure fisherman and the idea of making my own lures at this stage seems a very long while away. But WOW some serious skills shown.

Thanks for sharing
