Yes! I ride mainly XC, train around 150km per week offroad. I have a Gary Fisher with full XTR and SID world cup on the front.. Used to do the big XC races but too dangerous for me now as I'm self-employed and can't afford broken bones.. Great way to keep fit and get rid of stress (fishing also helps)

How about you?

yip, also dual hobbies (if you can call it that)

Gaint XTC 2 (2012) RockShox Recon 110mm, Full XT, WTB Tubeless (total Weight 11.2kg).

I do about 60km a week some XC races every now and again (was out for about 3 months with a knee problem). Planning to do my first stage race in Nov this year

120km, 2 days, 3650m total accent

Awesome. I love Giant bikes. I was looking at doing that race just before I left SA, it's a famous one. I used to do lots of 24hr races too, so much fun. Your fitness needs to be up there though or you are in for a world of pain.

I might do a race or two again here in Australia, there are some good ones around. Only problem is I take too many risks, love the speed!

Unbelievable where technology is going with the new bikes, so light so strong, so reliable. Love the sport. Expensive hobby though..

Nice ride Rock (I like the pic too)

Those upgrades you mention sound about right. There are some very good forks around that won't cost you a much needed body part, look at the lower end Rock Shox models..

Fanie, you are not doing the Lord of the Chain Rings are you? Now that is a beaut of a race, with all the hotel comforts at the end of every stage.

Raleigh RM7
Shimano XTR groupsets
RockShox Reba SL
LUST Tubeless

Was quite serious last year doing most of the local races and placing top 15 most times. Have been off the bike for about 6 months now as the wife is keen to start a family! Cycling aint so good for that apparently

Hi Hylton

Nope won’t be doing the lord of the chains. My budget (and limited leave) only allows one big trip a year (my wife is a runner and we have to split things down the middle)

The race is definitely on my bucket list though, hopefully ticking off Knysna and to hell and back this year.

Nice, like the thin frame! Dont like these fat frames that most bikes come out with these days. tried the whole XC thing 2x, since im supposeto be older and bones break easier, but just cant seem to get to grips with the whole distance and clipless thing. Since my whole family is into MTB im taking a lot flac, since Im not riding a "proper" bike and still fiddling with the small bikes, haha

dont believe in thst getting old story, i have alot of friend in their late 40's and even on their way to 60 thats really enjoying it flatout, you have to go clipless otherwise you will never be good at the technical stuff and about the distance , just byt vas and put more time in the saddle and soon those 70-80 morning rides will be a breeze

most frames these days are fairly this, excepth the gaint seem to stay with a bigger tube design, and then the aluminuim frames also seem to be a bit ticker

you should really ride more if you stay in Stelenbosch, i went riding there a few months ago with my wife and one of SA's top female riders and there is lovely rides out there

I used to ride everyday, now only when I get a chance. We live just below the mountain at Eden, so its takes me about 2-3 minutes to be on a trail:) Think it has some of the best trails in the country, helped to build a few myself when I was in school. Nice thing is Lots off singletrack and downhill, the two best parts of mountainbiking for me.
I what I mean with the old thing is, I still like doing Jumps, downhill and a bit off streetriding. Clip of my favourite moutain biker of all time, Jeff Lenofskyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhQDDoL0WPo

the whole distance think gets to me, haha My father, close to 60 does the riding everyday, he says the clipless defintly helps alot when peddling distance
