@ braailegend & deisel, I don't know if its the pics or what, but why is your saddle set so low? or are you guys also kortgat like me?

I was very disgusted when i bought the giant and was told I must get a small frame

p.s. did knysna 50km (crap race by the way) and entered for tohellandback in Nov. as such not a lot of fishing as I spend most of my time in the gym or on the bike!

Because we free ride or do down hill bud, seldom use the saddle. Its only there to stop the frame going up my ass on a big drop lol,

I ride on a social level. I attached a pic of my current bike. Its from the day i picked it up. I like the Merida One Twenty. Suites my varied riding styles. And I can push it a little more on the downhills. Probably not the best for racing.

@ Braailegend- My brother in law used to work for intense cycles, those are beaut bikes! They really know how to put good looking bikes together. That M9 they are producing now really looks good and is tricked out well.

Deisel - you downhill okes are nuts! I have no issues with burning it up on a descent but diving between trees at the same time, nooit!

Looking at a new bike at the moment, have a look at the FOCUS Raven 2.0 29er

I did some MTB XC when I was younger but lost the sport during my varsity days. I'm keen to buy myself a bike again. Can I ask you what is your thoughts on a Mongoose Meteore Comp 29'er.

Depends on what you want to do. another question is why 29"???

In my opinion most mongoose bikes are HEAVY, and the components are shabby to say the least.

Merida is launching there dual suspension 29er one of these days. And the prices didnt look too shabby. And if a dually isnt your style, there big nine hardtails are very well priced for the components.

the best advice i can give you is stick with well known brands, the spend a lot of money in research and in general you get a better product
Either but SPez, Scott or merida
There no doubt about 26 or 29, just go with the big wheels, you will never look back
If you guys are ever in the George area let me know and i will gladly show you the area

big decision for me at least, but 29'ers are everywhere so i guess i will have to move with the times too

I ride my saddle that low, so I don't hit myself when jumps go bad. Also allows me to bunnyhop higher.

My 2nd horse in the stable. Imported the frame from UK last month. Built off stuff and deals on the internet. Extremely sweet ride, but the Single speed makes you sweat blood on the uphills.

Sweat blood you say! I tried riding a single last week and there is no way. I like the granny gear when climbing. I like the idea of building a bike up slowly from specials and sales on the net. Built my first stumpjumper that way a few years back.

To all those interested, you should seriously look at riding the Hogsback Lord of the Chain Rings, despite a serious mechanical on the first day and losing 2hrs of ride time I loved it.

As for the 29 vs 26 vs 27.5 debate! Yes throw in the 27.5. It all depends on what you are doing and how serious you are. I have found with marathon races (long distance and generally dirt road terrain) the 29 is king but in th etight twist stuff and when you really need to climb 26 wins out. As a slightly competitive rider with good fitness i am sold on the 27.5. Gives me enough edge on the long rides over the 26 and still enough through the twists, while climbing better than the 29.
