Hi Guys

Just to echo the sentiments of LGF i wish to add the following

The site is being run as a non profit organisation with sponers only for the comps and presents that are given out. The admin is being run by members with a normal 8-5 jobs.....so to echo the sentiments we need to crawl before we walk.

We need to continue build up the infrastructe of the system to sustain ongoing growth. If we decide to move to next level we need be confident we have the variables under control to sustain any fractures.

Organisations are dynamic organisms that grow in a defined eco-system. The community structure of Sealine is still under the contruction phase. I personally would loke to see it become stronger before we start to fragment the focus. There are many competitive bases in the different provinces but no single community that performs the function of SEaline.

Sealine has provided a niche place in cyber-space where everpersom with any angling blood wants to spare every avaible minute. I have seen guys log on at wee hours in the morning..guys remain on the forum for the whole day.

It also provide a learning platform where certain issues will not find place elsewhere. It shoulders the responsibility for educated and rational debate where issues can last several days.

The bottom line is Sealine remains the focus of a certaim market segment and this stage maybe we should consolidate this avenue before moving the goalposts.

Howzit Guy's

LGF The idea which Blade recomended was a viable one and that is what i tried to back up.Alot of guy's on this forum want to get to some sort of competitive level,As i noticed in some previous postings, etc etc..

What i'm trying to say is that agree with most of what was said in this post by all the guy's that have paticipated. The point im trying to get at is that i understoood that Blade was trying to say (and i may be wrong here)but on this forum there are quite a few guy's who have a wealth of knowledge and experience and alot to offer. These guy's obviously woud like to progress on to fish competitively and add some sort of goal driven motivation to their angling lives.

In saying this it is human nature to be competitive, just take a look at the CT post and you will see that competitiveness is what drives us all,and thus this is where i think Blade was coming from.It is important to make sure that we strike a balance between the social eliment and the competitive element, other wise we may find that the spark these experienced anglers have for sealine ends up dying, and that is where i think we need to be carefull. If the experienced knowledgeable anglers get bored and loose the spark then what base do we have to move forward and educate and encourage the novice angler.

The novice angler is soeone who always takes advice and looks up to the guy's who fish competitively eg.Noweeds, with an angler of his experience and knowledge would he now consider giving up fishing for his club and province and fishing socially,I don't think so.That is what im trying to say is that in order for us at sealine to have anglers from all facits of fishing and with so much experience,we have to be able to offer them a platform or at least some sort of base from which they can move forward,I think then by these experienced guy's moving forward and competing and excelling at this sport, they will intern be able to offer much much more back to most of us Novice Anglers.

I have no problem in crawling before we can walk or run,i just feel that the foundation has already been laid by our Emperor and in my opinion it is a Dam Solid one at that,So by us trying to motivate the professionals amoungst us i don't think we would be killing SEALINE in any way.In fact i think we would only be moving it in the right direction.Think about it if we had just two guy's who fished competition and leagues and then on a MONDAY morning logged on and gave us all a full report how much of interest do you think it would generate for us as a comunity who is hungry for infomation.I know that i for one who has never fished competitively would be excited to gain more insight into the competitve side of angling.

Those are some of my sentiments on this issue...

Cheers Riymos

Hi Guys

When all is said and done in any sport when the degree of professional sport rears its ugly head there is always the spectre of cost and logistics.

At no stage is any member of sealine prevented from attending or partaking of serious angling comps. From the various posts on the system already it becomes obvious that members are taking part in postals etc. Guys like Noweeds are part of Angling clubs and other Forum.

My point is do we need another fishing club with rules and formality that would the easy going attitude of Sealine go out the window. We have something special and I would hate to see that we loose perspective. Look at the other forum on web and compare the activity rating to Sealine. We are miles ahead in terms of postings, new threads, contribution ratios , etc.

As I suggested  before , we can compete within the organisation and against provinces. If the  financial contrainst allow for it , there is nothing stopping the organisation fishing against other clubs.

But to structure competitive angling in Sealine Alone would take the amataeur status out of the game and all anglers who only specialise in weekend angling for the feel of the sea / fresh water would be lost to this community.

Where is the need to go this route...I really need to be convinced that we need anothe proffesional fishing club in the country. Most of the professional Anglers already belong to Clubs..( I stand to be corrected)...what incentive would there be for them to leave their clubs and fish under the Sealine Banner.\

I believe that we unto a good thing with Sealine as it is...we need to grow the Conservation Action...devote most of our energy / effort / resources to this aspect of Sealine so that our kids have something to see/fish in 10 years time...

The Coastal Management system is falling to pieces and the governmental systems given the responsibility for this either dont care and cannot find the time todo it.Lets put effort aND ENERGY INTO THIS.

With no disrespect i think you are missing the point with regards to this post.No where in the sugestion by Blade or myself did we say that we wanted Sealine to become a full blown Angling Club.No what i meant and i think what Blade was trying to say is that we need to offer a more diverse platform for the competitive angler.

In other words give the professional angler a platform to launch or should i say further himself by fishing competitively. In doing this you would keep the competitive anglers motivated and gaining even more experience and knowledge and in doing so he the competitive angler can then give back or contribute to Sealine by posting and providing us with advice.

As i said before we as an Angling comunity are very hungry for infomation, any infomation on fishing boating baits,etc...This is what we log on for everyday and every hour.Infomation, advice, knowledge these things are key to a sucessfull website like Sealine. If we don't have these factors then what do we have?I sugested laying a foundation for us to build on a platform to which we could them launch a competitve side of Sealine. In no way did i mean make Sealine a competitive angling club....

We need to concentrate on building yes i agree with all that as i said in my post and if you understood what i was trying to say then you would understand what i was getting at.With regards to growing the conservation part of Sealine im all for it.We have our Emperor to thank for him alway's putting conservation first and for that we have to commend him.

With regards to...The Coastal Management system is falling to pieces and the governmental systems given the responsibility for this either dont care and cannot find the time todo it.Lets put effort aND ENERGY INTO THIS.Well as you and all of us said things take time. One step at a time.I feel that there are so many aspects to look at and this is importatnt but as important as it is, it's not something that we can just snap our fingers and fix.It will take alot of time and alot of effort and alot of effort to fix this issue.

I hope you understand my views in a more translucent light now...

I partly agree with you on the concept of creating Pro clubs ito Regions to represent Sealine, however, it's partly.  Thing is, How old is Sealine? Not very old, correct?  Now if the guys with the experience and knowledge that you refer to have joined recently and are still active with contributions do you really think that they'll grow tired, become bored with Sealine as it is and lose their spark and ultimately leave? If so wouldn't they have done so already?

Sealine is more than just a forum, where we learn from each other! Sealine is a community, a Family, and whether you would like to admit it or not, IT IS AN ADDICTION (in my case anyhow).

JACE also mentioned the following facts:

1. That no-one prohibits any member of Sealine to partake in any formal/professional competition.

2. That the Pro's most probably already belong to their own clubs, under which flags they are fishing, and hence they might not even be interested in belonging to a Formal SealineAngling Club.

3. Sealine's focus (I might be wrong) is on learning from each other here on the forum 1stly and 2ndly when we fish together socially.

Now the main thing is to keep it REAL, by this I mean, that the CHARACTER Sealine currently has (which is to get to meet new people, exchange ideas and knowledge and socialising either here on the forum or next to water in a manner with the empahsis on having FUN) will be murdered by the strict, formal structure that governs any formal club.

Ialso believe that you'll learn more if you do it because you wanto and because it's fun than what you would if you are forced to do it and with rules and regulations that tends to clamp down on the free spirited fun of social events.

Just my thoughts, not necessarily the correct or only way to go.

Anyhow, Ijust feel that we should

Howzit guys, just thought i'd add my little 2 cents about this Competitive Sealine... To be honest i love Sealine the way it is, i also understand the need for growth within a working system to maintain interest... I do not belong to a club, and dont think i really want to... My opinion is that when u introduce a rigid competitive edge to a social foundation like Sealine, then the ugly head of POLITICS would come into the equation eventually...and we all can see what politics does at the end of the day... Then we will have to deal with fractioning an unstable community(A-team, B-team, C-team), and the reason i say unstable, is that we (members) have only met a few times, and we are still attempting to build strong, long-lasting friendships and understanding relationships with each other... Questions like, Who choses the Team?, Why am i in C-team when Guy X, didnt catch any fish at the last Comp and he's in B-team, all these questions come up, and we end up getting pissed off and we dont log onto Sealine again, so Sealine disintegrates, and becomes a myth that we tell our kids about....

So my idea is, to let Sealine build itself up, and get to a level where we at least know each other by our real Names and not our nicknames, and then we can democratically come up with a viable structure that caters for everyones needs.... So my opinion is that we keep Sealine the way it is, cos its working, we have more socials, get to know each other a little better, and then develop structures, where Sealine can be fractioned in a democratic manner....

I took a little long to post my previous post and only afetr posting it did I have the opportunity to read your last post, I now understand wat it is that you're getting at and I support your feeling a whole lot more.

Sealine should perhaps create and build on a platform that caters for the Pro as well as for the Social guy.

I for one am no Pro and don't think I'll ever want to do that, I enjoy fishing FAR TOO MUCH to spoil it with belonging to a club, But That's My Opinion.  So i'll be batting for the Social team and get the Info from the Pro Team, once they give their feedback on their doings.

What I'm saying is that you's can all count on me on the Social front to further that portion of Sealine and of cause I'll fully support the Pro portion too, I just won't belong to it personally.

Hi Guys

Just to reiforce the sentiments of both myself , Mel g anf LGF....there is nothing stopping anybody to fish in Competions...join of the many fishing clubs that exist already.

Take Mels point...who will decide who amongst us are the competive anglers...what criteria do we use...the last fish you caught..expensive tackle...your knowledge.

As I stated numberous of times..we are unto a good thing here with a social forum..lets not use it to become just another fishing club or subset thereof....I think the last paragraph of Mel articles sums up my feeling to the point.

I think if you take a survey of all the professional fisherperson that belong to SEaline you will find that a large percentage of then belong to a recognised fishing club and to sealine. What will be benefit for them to join two profeesional clubs.

We have a lot of fun in our social comps and I would hate to see it embroileed in politics and hundreds of rules.

Thanks ...and with everything in life ..the motto is we agree to disagree.
