a better video , have mine for about 4 months now. no hassles been in sand and under water , no signs of corrosion.
it is like any reel used in saltwater its gonna corrode , unless cleaned and stripped down and well maintained, it is a beast of a baitcaster.

..I spose as Spooler says ...time will tell....IF you gooi as much as I do . then rather go with the tried and tested reels , SL30 , TRG Shim....Speedmaster , ABU300C , Torium20 ....these reels have stood the test of time.....My SL30 is now 15 years old and never replaced a main gear OR pinion.....Ive worked on many of those Daiwa Lexa type reels....Even your R5000 Shimano baitcaster have all shown pretty severe corrosion...BUT....maybe just maybe...I tell you what , not to be biased here , BUT shore conditions in SA are one of the toughest in the world as to opposed salt content , wind and sand.....
I agree with you Kenty and spooler but on the other hand with all the lastest technology , fishing has been brought into the future and new products need to be tested .the older versions of the lexa reels where specifically designed for bass fishing and other freshwater species.
The saltwater is very harsh on any material , caribbean , cuba, morocco , Oman, mediterranean and south africa are all heavy on metals.
As you say "time will tell" . Care and maintenance is the key.

Reading this reminds me just how spoilt for choice we are these days with tackle etc.
As a kid in EL had 1 reel/penn 180 for shad and was used for spinning from the shore, break wall or pier.Same reel used for float, drift or k bung.Fishing for mullet and leeries and catching livebait.
Got a 160 and a 30h for xmas when I was 13, gee was over the moon.

For a few days about 2 weeks ago the shad was so "dik" the would be working on the water and you'll just cast over them and pull through and...... 'vas'!!!
I through them in a pool because every cast was 'vas' and then after just took my qouta and released the rest. (gave a few to an older gentleman who had a hard time catching them.)

Ja, I've noticed them getting bigger year on year.. At least restrictions and monitoring is working for one species..for now.
Hi daar Alwyn......as ek kan terug gaan in tyd sou ek se 2014/15 het mooi groot elwe op gelewer op KZN kus.....daar was genuine n paar "busse" tussen in. Hierdie jaar van 2016 klink dit sover andersom........dis baie algemene/byna net-net lengte en selde n mooi grootte.
Ons moet seker nog wag v die klein blink-lyfies om n goeie verskyning te maak om beter grootte in elwe te sien....
