Hi Mel G

Thanks for the details, but no luck...no red eye...and no they dont take orders for them...they dont last long at all. He got some in last week...by the same afternoon they were all gone!:cry1

I hope the water temp comes down...then they should be easier to come by!:?

Cheers

Guns...

I also hope so MJ, but that berg wind we had a Saturday, didnt do us any favours... we really need the temp to get down asap 4 the sardines especially... We have just about a month more for the silver tide, so lets hope Mother Nature delivers her bounty...so we can enjoy

Morn All

Gale force westerly to south-westerly winds (65km/h) were expected east of Port Elizabeth, spreading to Richards Bay.

Meanwhile, very rough seas with waves in excess of 5m were expected to develop between the Orange River Mouth to Richards Bay, moderating from the west.

Is this going to work for us or against us?

Howzit, in my opinion i think that these weather changes bide well for fishing, as this cold spell will definitely drop the water temp drastically. This means that the sardines will make an appearance, lets hope so... The water temp needs to drop to around 17-18 deg, as the optimum temperature... The big swells are a bit worrying though, cos this might cause huge drifts, and move banks, and cover reefs that are close inshore... Lets hope all turns out well after this cold spell...

Hi Guys !

Spoke to one of the locals at Winkelspruit this evening. According to him the Garrick seem to be on the bite already, although it has been a bit quiete yesterday & today because of the rough water. Anyways there are two tackle stores which are rather close to the venue should anyone need anything.

1. High Tide Fishing Tackle & Bait
143 Kingsway, Warner Beach
(031) 916 6617

2. The Fishing Hole
Winkel Mall

Point A: Very good for Garrick. However, you need to be able to throw very far.

Point B: Great for shad, and Garrick.

Point C: Lot's of Gully Fish, and Shad

Point D: Big Fish ground, Skates, Sharks, Garrick, Kingies etc.

Point E: Shad & Garrick

Point F: Shad & Garrick.

Hey There Ronald,

What specie sharks may one encounter there? You made mention to "big", what size range?

Hey Volcom.

Personally I have not caught any sharks at Winkies, but I have seen guys trying. I have seen greys and spinners  (1-4Kg range) But you do get some good skates in this place. But around the Silver Tide, you could pick up Blackfins, Bronzies etc.

However I am a bit concerned, most of the guys that have been to Winkies recently have said that the place is really bad for Sharks. Since those heavy tides we have had, it seems that a lot more rocks have surfaced, so playing big fish is going to be a problem, and to make things worse, I see Admin have added a new rule in that we cannot Gaff any fish. So landing sharks off those rocks is going to be difficult, espescially at night. My suggestion, carry a few extra spools of nylon, and lot's of Leader nylon.

Ronald.
