Thanks Mike! :)

Guys the lads in the know, who fish competitions often seem the best at knowing where the fish are gonna be, so at this stage Bettys Bay does appear to be a good choice of venue.  And if we can rely on the like of Noweeds to share his knowledge, I feel we will all benefit in terms of learning about a new area, and also catching on the day.

How many would have a problem shifting the 50km from Strandfontein to Bettys Bay?

In closing I'd like the CPT guys to all work together, openly discuss where and what time we have it, and we all go to have a good time, learn some new things, catch a few fish and make new friends.

I'd like to close the discussion on venue by next week Wednesday the second, so I can let Jonah and the lads in KZN know where we stand so we can finalise the logistics!

Thanks for your input and assistence thus far.

Its about 30 kays from Gordons Bay. The cape is different to Natal where you don't have to fish in the dark to get good fish. It should start getting light around 7:00 by that time. I recon its a good time to start. 7:00 till 3/4..........

Howz your okes minds....?
You've got THE Noweeds advising you guys... he is a WP angler, knocking right on the door of National selection - holder of Provincial and National records. The absolute expert on fishing this region of the Cape; want to learn something, then listen to the guy...:?

I agree weeds because you want to way in when there's still light as well as if it cold you don't want to be hanging around 21h00 to weigh and leave @ 22h00-23h00

Lets say we fish betty's. There are any amount of places we can get together to hand in our scores. The weigh in cut off can be an hour after lines up. That means that if you want you can be on your way home by 5:30pm if you want.:first

dont be so tense man, thats why we have such forums to discuss these sort of things, and not to be told to wake up and listen etc etc :X

it doesnt mean because 'noweeds' has done well in the past that his word is gold (no offense intended greg, i'm just trying to prove a point) as i said before we are doing this primarily to meet new fishing partners and hopefully catch some fish!!!

in our last 2 inter-club comps which co-incidentally were held in that area. the fishing was not good, in fact it was terrible, we could probably count the whole of wpsaa's catch on 2 hands, altho the chances are better there which is why i voted for it too.

I say lets fish the area like we do at the inter-clubs and hope for the best on the day, meet new people and have a jol, not make it as serious and unenjoyable as other comps in the cape.

Hi Guys

OK let's cover the 4AM thing.  Personally I think it's the right time, but I see some fisherman aren't as over the top as I am (I got my dad out of bed at 1am to go fishing once ::H, and he's 73).

How about a registration time between 4am and 5am? During this time I can coerce Noweeds to check out conditions and recommend final site (out of a choice of 3) and put us ON the fish! :)  After all that's what we're after.

I for one would love to learn from the likes of Noweeds and others to improve my success rate around this coast, and besides it's one day of the month to forfeit some sleep for the sake of fishing. :)

The only other alternative IS to do the registration in the afternoon and to fish into the night, and finish up in the dark.

More input on this will be appreciated, from ALL people down to fish comp!

Thanks for all the feedback thus far!

So what I think is that you and Noweeds will BOTH be our technical experts and advisors on the day! :)

I like that!! :)

I'm a week-end (and occasional week day) angler, and feel I can learn a lot from you guys who fish comp ^^........ I'm looking forward to picking your brains! ;)

I'm with you on the day fishing .. It would be better overall as we don't have to struggling in the dark with the weighing etc...

So I'm with the early start - early finish

Hi all,

If the number of entrants is low, then please consider fishing only a small area, like 1km or so, eg. the Dawidskraal -  Verwoerd Beach area. Especialy if what you are wanting is to learn from the experts, but also not to give the guys that know the area an unfair advantage.

Maybe Coxy/ Sealine should think of holding a workshop on a seperate day where the guys in the know can explain the finer detail of competitive angling etc. After all this is a competition.

And I thought you guys were more intent on beating KZN than anything else!

You might need 10Kms to stand a chance!:p

Hi Guys

What i think is that this is a competition and a get together, we should choose like say three different places, places that would firstly accommodate ALL our needs, secondly we should be able to socialise, and thirdly choose the best spot considering winds/tides.

Not sure if a fishing spot can be decided a week before, though i think this will sort all our needs, and make sure we have a fighting chance, the guys in KZN are going to fish HARDCORE. lets just not be too fussy where time and location is concerned, and end up being embarrassed by the opposing team

Just my 2cents worth

Jaweed

I would say we meet somewhere at around 5am, discuss where we are going to fish, the spots, whats on offer etc. Lines in at 7am lines up at 4pm. Weigh in at 5-5:30pm!

Just my oppinion.
