I personaaly would not like my kids to go to a school in the US - at least ours still have disipline and manners.

I will never leave africa - there is so much potential here and so much potential to do extremely well. If I had a choice to move out of SA it would be up into Africa - But first world countries - uhm no fanks

LMAO But you have NO kids so you don’t need to worry about them. And I know if you had the opportunity to move in to the bush and fish permanently you would.

I currently know of two families that have moved to the US and they both say the school their kids are in are 1000 times better than our schools. So ya

With great sadness i read the comment of you loosing your wife in the attack. Less than a month ago someone we knew were killed in a farm attack.

It makes me sad, angry and discusted at the same time.

The first thing that you feel in a situation like this is taking the law into your own hands, however that is not the right way of doing things and after all we are not living in a John Wayne movie neither.

May God have mercy on us South Africans and may he grant us the power to protect what is ours.

Makes me VERY sad to read about how many people are affected by crime in our country. It also makes me realise how blessed I am, I am 48 year old white man and have not been affected by crime at all. Not even my family members. More reason for me to go on my knees and thank God for what time I have with my family and also to fish and enjoy nature. Sympathy to all those affected, all I can say is keep on believing and pray for our country and it's resources!

Your a blessed man Hennie!

Reading post where people are affected by violence scares the crapp out of me!.

I am still a young man(30) my kids are still small, my son is almost 3 and my baby girl is 3.5 months old and I wonder about their future every day of my life.

However, running away is not an option to me. I respect the descisions other people make to leave SA but it is not for me personally.

Here's my problem. I suffer from hate for illegal immigrants and leaving my home to go and stay in someon'e else's country will make me feel quilty 'cause I am seeing it as taking those people's opportunities away from them.

I also don't think I will ever feel that I belong in another country like I BELONG here.

I love South Africa with my whole heart, and yes, its got its own problems that WE need to deal with but hay!.......No country is perfect, even if the Americans believe so.

Just my 2c's worth

That you will not hear abroad. I travel across all ponds often with my work. Things do look peachy over there, but like Ryan says, it is the S*&^% underneath that makes it so.
I've been mugged, almost stabbed and felt way more unsafe in some developed countries than here. They just offer better counselling after such an experience and they also excell at hiding their county's flaws.

Sure, I also often ponder on the safety of my kid(s)and oppertunities elsewere, heck I can leave today if I want, but one thing that I can share (out of extensive experience) with everybody following this thread is:
Great people, weather and sites in SA, are greater than anywhere else on the planet, and the bad elements in SA is, most of the time, not half as bad as in other countries.

DO NOT FORGET OUR GREAT FISHING!!!!!

Hang in there my angler - countrymen! We have all weathred the worst of the storm, stick around and we will soon enjoy the spoils of our patience......

Reading this thread is really depressing, but I understand where everyone is coming from.
@Tika, sorry to hear about your loss. I admire your strenght.

@Johanvc, I agree about what you say regarding your kids... Me, I got no kids and don't plan on leaving this country, or continent, but that might change when I become responsible for the life of someone else.

also believe it's a case of the grass being greener... Look at america, the kids who can't make friends go on killing sprees... that's pretty f^&*ed up. At least some of our criminals have a motive like hunger.

Also dont think that the solution is to leave the country. thet's actually part of the problem...

This is everyone's country who was born here. The color of your skin doesn't give anyone more or less rights in anything, or more rights to be here. Anyone who believes that they have preferance to be here must try and remove me! Last thing they'll ever do! :uzi

Anyway, just my 2c.
