The afternoon we decided to target some garrick at our favourite spot.

First one was a baby.

We managed to get a couple more garrick, but unfortuanately our "camerawoman" got borred and headed back to the house. It was an hour of mayhem . We were smashed all over the show by the big ones. We had a few on for more than 10 minutes when either the leader would snap or hooks would pull. The biggest one was lost after about 15 minutes and taking about 150m of line, it gave a great display of jumps and tailwalks, eventually the knot onto the popper pulled (amature mistake!!) Tackle used was a diawa exceler 2500 with 6lbs Suffix braid and 10lbs fireline and 8ft exceler, a 2500 daiwa regal, silstar 40 with 10 lbs braid and shimano solara rods and some other no-names.

Ha ha, no, I am pretty sure they were garrick. One or two of them actually smashed the poppers with half their bodies out the water. I have also never before witnessed something like that. Maybe they were being chased by those big Zambezis, lol!

Off to Witsand/Breede the 18th of September. Hopefully that will be the weekend I get my first spotted grunter on dropshot. Got the camo worm, got the shrimp, got the little yellow paddle tails... anything else anyone can reccomend??? Hope the river isn't going to be to fresh!

Throw surface lures at them it's the best way to catch them this one was 58cm

That's an Eastern Cape thing mate :)
Sure you might get one in a hundred here in the Western Cape, but nowhere near as many as your side.
But we keep trying hey ;)
