has anyone used tennis racket gut for either Traces or leader

if so what make or quality gut and and what fish did you target with it

I have heard of people using it as part of their leader when sliding instead of steel trace - is this advisable

please any comments or suggestions would be appreciated as I am looking into the pros and cons thereof

Howzit Rag

Well this is a first for me i have nevr really known anyone who uses it.

Althogh it does make sense that it would be more or less the same as buying the correct thickness and colour from any fishing shop. The only down side would be that tennis gut im sure would be alot more expensive then regular nylon.

I would also consider that your leader should be as invisible as possible so colour would play a big part in which line you would use.It would be verry interresting to see if anyone has done this and also what sort of gut they used.

Good Topic

I saw an Episode of ESA where Raymond was using tennis gut for trace and 1.2 or 1.4 mm leader while fishing for Spotties in the Cape

We sometimes use tennis strings when fishing the reefs cause the small raggies find it hard to bite through. As far as make goes just get the cheepest!!

I fished the Gus Kohler last year in East London, the guys from there used it for Gully Sharks and instead of nylon coated wire between slide ring and leader, they used racket cord. I had bought some and it wasnt expensive.

Just go to anywhere where they re-string rackets and there re always offcuts which you may get for free or cheaper. Something like they use 3 meters to restring and there is a meter spare.

The reason its so good is that is usually has a small peice of wire running through it. When you get it try bite through and see how much of an impact this has...nutting!

Another advantage is that is floats in teh water so keeps it jsut above the bricks in the current. Wouldnt use it as leader though...to hectic and not really needed if you already using 1.4mm
