yes i did catch it of my boat but this place is also accessable at low tide.

what you have to do is park at whilsons wharf parking lot (where the boat moorings are) walk down into the bay on your right you will see a big concrete block climb up and fish, guy please dont hurt yourself climbing up cos it is a bit high!

when you on the block cast deep and reel in until your sinker gets stuck onto the sand bank.

best bait is a single white cracker!

tackle: i've noticed that if you use anything above 15lb line you wil not get a bite.
you will also need no.4 hooks and 1oz sinkers.

fish on the incoming tide and pack up and leave before the water gets too high.

congrats salty , good catch man.

i know the block u are talking abt , the block is def high , normally what the regulars do is take a long piece of wood and place it at 60 deg angle against the block then , hold onto the rope and climb up , its much easier that way.

as for the fishing part , dont cast too close to the bouy cos the grunters use the bouy as cover , as soon as the hit the duck around the bouy and u willose the fish.

if u stand on the block and look below u plenty of glassies there and other small bait fish u can use as live bait aswell.

lol @ reefman!!! iv'e been fishing there for  a while  and  the fish dont even wanna fart on my bait!!!:D

L-H ya the thats the same place but where are gonna find a plank that long in the harbour? i know there is a rope that we used to get up on that block yaw but its workout!

but try not to cast toward the buoy, the best place is to cast towards the centre bank that is where the the fish are.

but if you looking for kingies and queenies and some big perch then towards the buoy is excellent especially on low tide!

@ SALTY     u need to walk with ur eyes open boeta lol.
what these regulars do is u check where the loose bricks and boulders are , just check along there , what they do is they "stash it" there when they leave and pick it up the next time they come back , but u didnt here from me okies , i'll deny everything.

Also a word of caution to the guys that havent fished on that block before , theres opening on top of the block and those rooms are full of  water , if u fall in its going to be drama , pls be careful up there esp at night and dont fish there if theres a strong wind.

The moff grunters are out numbered by the spotties by 100's to 1.

They seem to like the deeper channels in the bay and harbour entrance, and are full up beyond backline along the Durban beaches at certain times of the year. They congregate in holes, that u can see on the fishfinder. I think the ski-boaters anhialated the stocks a few years back.....not so plentiful anymore.

For sure!

Not me, but a mate got a nice one (3.5Kg) on a light stick on North Pier Dbn in the entrance channel, earlier this year (Feb I think).

No, thats the C o c k Grunter.

Moff Grunter has no spots, and a snout thats a bit shorter than the spotted grunter. Also known as the Javelin Grunter.
