Countless times I bought platties from Solly's as a child growing up in Vereeniging. Those are happy memories.
Sometimes I ask myself if I will see the end of angling in my lifetime as the greenies and their followers and hangers-on finally convince governments anglers are a threat to nature. A sign of the times perhaps? or is the world moving on and anglers will be left behind? We shall doubtless see. Already here in Australia the Green Party is pushing for a ban of all fishing in huge areas. Such a move will kill recreational fishing here.
What is important now is the example us anglers set to the world. Catch and release (especially of big fish) is of absolute paramount importance if our sport is to survive. Or we won't have a leg to stand on when the time comes to defend our interests.
