Future Comps

Hi people

During the Birthday Bash...since we had a lot of time to talk and less to fish the subject discussed was the direction in which our present comp structure is based. Some thoughts centered around that our social comps have become too competive and the social aspect gets lost.....I am a firm believer in the fact the majority of our members are here for fun..those that are in severe comp mode are allready members of both Sealine and a famous fishing Club

I will like to see our present system maintained...ie  biggest ed and non ed and the minimun weight per fish...

However what I would like to see is a third and fourth category based on a point system on species caught and realeased on the day.

..Their are many ways this point system could work and maybe members can comment..This will mean that a member will come to our socials/comps knowing he has a chance of a prize if he caught a size blacktail and a shad....he / she will standa chance of a decent prize even if they cannot catch a record fish.

This will open up the field and allow more of the social anglers a chance to win a rod/reel or something of value

Lets come with ideas for this third category and put it forward to the SEaline Admin..

I would also like to see more prizes like the two we handed out the BBday bash..and the one tp PieterH daughter was the tops.

I do agree
This type of events should be somthing that every one looks foward to and giving everybody an equal chance like this will increase the attendance.
Social events are in other words fun events and this type of added prizes (booby prizes) will be fun.

Right on Jace!!! In situations like you mentioned and from saturdays social(which was outsanding by the way) many fishermen tend to lose hope when they hear of qualifying fish been pulled in conditons like we fished in on saturday, because of this the enthusiasm is gone and many tend to pack up thinking that they dont stand a chance of pulling a big one!!! Guys perseverence pays of no matter what tackle you use....so the fish(no matter the size) should be counted mabe on a point system

ps:just my opinion

Guys there is another way of looking at it.......why not rather work hard at becoming a better angler and therefore giving yourself more of a chance at winning, rather than changing the rules to give you more of a chance while not improving your skills.

Karma said it perfectly at a WP meeting when some of the weaker clubs were trying to get rules changed to give them more of a chance he stood up and said that his club would rather measure themselves against the best and fight their way to the top than see the rules changed to give them a easier path!!

hi MJ
Thats exactly the point...the conditions were revised to allow for the consolation prize. The intial terms of the comp were min edible per fish of 2 kgs.
The point I am making is that we still keep the first two prises as they are to allow for the pros and the ones aspiring to become pros but intriduce a point system for the social angler to get his hand on some decent prises.
This will also increase the amount of angllers that they part in the comp.
Bring us in contack with the ""non conservative " fisherman and get the message of catch and release to them...it will be a form of structured and enforced education for a decent prize.
At the moment with our present structure over the last few comps we attract the same peeople who already converts...if we are serious about education and converting the guys to our form of fishing we need to cast the net wider...it just my way of saying the more people we can entice to become part of the Sealine community the more chances we have of preserving the resorces.

I agree Jace, and good on you for bringing this point forward...Cos although i agree with competitiveness, we meet at a social level when we get together at a Sealine "Comp", we all help each other, even to the extent of tying baits and traces for each other, having a throw for a guy and such... This is a chance for the guy who fishes socially to be rewarded for his perseverance and love of fishing,... The truely competitive guys fish alot for prizes/points, cos they belong to clubs, so i say give the social angler a chance, and i'm not saying drop the bar or the standard or change the rules... But rather adjust them to your membership/following...which is of a social nature, if Sealine loses this social nature, then we will almost lose our ethos...

This is just my POV...i'm all up for constructive debate...as long as growth is the end point and not slander!!!

Cheers

Hi Jace

I have attached a points scoring table for you to look at. We have used this in the past and it worked very well. You don't have to weigh fish using this method thus enabling fish to be releshed much quicker. Give me a call should you need more info. 0832564309

Hi ronny
Thanks for that...maybe we could that and modify it slightly....limit the number of fish per species and set some min size etc...
We will talk closer to the next comp.

Hi Jace.

Sounds like a good plan.

Like a lot off off the sealiners say:

we are a family.Get the kids involved too. My kid was so impressed that she even phone her Granny on the farm to tell her about the prise she won.

Those kind off gestures makes every one want to come back and do it again.

I am fully behind U on this.(maybee then I can win something :thankie)

Keep us updated with ideas and I am sure that we can ad or change the ideas to suit our requirements.

Thanks

Pieter
