Hi Guys,Firstly Sorry for the Wrong Topic...   Please let me know it is difficult to fish with a Pen reel compared to a cofee grinder.Looking to change over seeing that most big fish are caught using Pens.   Tight Lines...............:fishn

I take it you dropped your sinker on your head when releasing the line too early in your cast with the coffee grinder!

at first it is difficult..but after you practice a bit you will get it rite and once you have got it rite to cast a penn reel or any multiplier reel you wont turn back cause you can use one reel for many things as in you could use it to catch eds and then change the reel to a stronger rod and catch a shark..

the best is to find someone who knows how to cast and let them help you set your reel up and give you a few tips ..the casting action will be different to a coffee grinder...

you will definately understand what an overwind is after your first few casts...have fun and dont give up..

Depend on what amount of moola you have, maybe shimano speedmaster to start of with, then up to the torium range and then when your realy in to it get yourself a trinidad.

These are all shimano type

All I can say is buy the best you can afford! It sux when you hook into something decent and you don't have the tackle to handle it. A very good all rounder at a good price is the Daiwa Grandwave 50.

Can you borrow a secondhand one from someone?

Go to your local sportsgrounds (or anywhere with open space) and practice a bit, with the spool tensioner on a little tight to restrict the free spool a bit. A few outings until you get the hang of it, releasing the spool tensioner once you're comfortable. Then, you can try out for real (at Garvies-Sloan Road even!). Don't through your coffee-grinder away though, a decent one like your's is very usable (and enjoyable) for edibles. Hell, even the ESA guys are using them for geeg fish now!

The best sport is light tackle!

If you are dead keen and ready to purchase a multiplier right now, any of the Shimano or Daiwa ones mentioned in these replies are good.......check your budget, check the look and style of the different makes and make a choice that appeals to you. In a few years, if you have saved enough, decide then if you really need a flashy Trinidad or Saltiga.

I love to watch a 'real' fisherman pull the fish on an el-cheapo right next to some guy with a flashy expensive reel who can't catch a thing!

Good luck........ask on this forum for guys in your area that may have a reel to lend you!

By the way, how was that size speckled snapper that Abel caught on ESA, dropshotting with a tiny coffee grinder! I bet that he rates that as one of his best catches ever, and he's an old seasoned heavy tackle shark fisherman!

Maybe it's time for Sealine to organise another social casting clinic at all regions where guys want to change from coffee grinder to multiplier can get a bit of help from other members.......after the sardine run season though!

If you want to learn how to cast with a multiplier real, try to find a policansky to borrow, nothing casts easier than that thing and once you've first got the hang of things you can start casting with a real multiplier(Daiwa).
