Hi Neil

Had Simen and a few other Sealiners in the warehouse this week and played around with the various braids and demonstrated some stitching to make a loop in the braid for cats paw connection and then for a Bristol using either thick braid or or mono.

All solid braids can be stitched but most effective and do-able from 40lbs up, maybe with 30lbs. I've been stitching my whiplash to make connector loops for the past year now because it gives the strongest and securest connector loop, I then catspaw mono topshot and then use the bristol knot with a few extra turns for braid or mono leaders

Been testing joining 2 x braids by splicing and the results are absolutely awesome, in fact I think I might just do a picture post on some stitches because the connection is tiny and super strong as near as Dammit to 100% the original breaking strain.

I am putting an order in for braids this week and I can get 100lbs in 50 or 150yds and in either, green, white, yellow, red, pastel blue or red.

I have 20, 30, 40, 50, 65, and 80lbs in stock, the 40 and 50 in 600yds and the others in 300yds. All available in Green or Yellow.

BTW the braids are knot strength rated so on a 33 turn bimini you'll get 18-19.5kg breaking on the 40lbs this outperforms many other braids that are rated as high as 50lbs.

I want green 40lbs for spinning and 150yds green 100lb for leader

Need a few other things aswell

Is the 100lbs hollow or solid ?
Played with "knotless" leader to braid connection, caught the small raggie on it, works great

Will play some more

Still wanne do twisted leader aswell for some shock absorbtion with the braid

You can order hollow or solid, hollow is just more expensive.

I have 100lbs hollow in 50yds also 130, 200 and 300. use them for windon connectors, splice them 200 to 40cm 130 to 40cm 100 and then can insert leader material to 1 - 1.6mm with ease and then obviously either mono mainline or braid inserted in the 100lbs tie of ends for knotless connection

Don't have a scale to test the 80lbs but pretty sure it's going to test at 100lbs+ and above 80lbs even when a bimini is tied.

The 60lbs hollow has been tested world wide by all manner of testers and on average it breaks at 90lbs

Some reviews, and braid tips and tricks, especially for hollow braids

Comments by a dealer in braid and it makes a lot of sense

"If you have your reel professionally spooled by people when you buy hollow braid you will get about 8-10% less on the same spool as solid.

You really however need to compare the real life breaking strength of the braids you are using to see if you are gaining anything.

For example, JB Hollow 100 has an Absolute Breaking Strength (ABS) around ~120lbs and with spliced connections that strength will be 100% retained. If you want to get the same 120 lbs breaking strength from solid you have to go to at least 130lb Braid because your tied connections will not be 100% strong (more like 60-70% of the 130). That 130 Braid is alot thicker than the 100 Hollow too.

So you really have to consider the whole system and what type of connections you are going to use before you can say that you have gained capacity because in most cases by going solid you have lost ABS and are effectively fishing thinner line."

Hi Jacked my own thread to put some more info on the braids.

In short 40lbs immediately available. 100lbs in 150yds to be ordered with next order.

Your alternative is to take the 80lbs solid which is Absolute Breaking Strength of 96lbs but only available in 300yds currently.

i tried stitching 20pound (on reel) to 80pound (leader) and did not really work out. quiet diffficult to get the needle through 20 pound.

tried double uni knot and my rod eyes did not like that.

any other sujjestion to join the 2?. i would love to have that 80 pound braid leader so i can put out a good shot. 20 pound aint to kind on the fingers

Now that's a language I can be understandding

0.40-1mm

but you can splice a 50cm 100lbs into a 200lbs connector taking you up to 1.6mm

Some time tonight I'll post new knot i learned on the internet from the USA braid fishing Guru's. Been making it and testing it all day.

It's called the "Bob sands Knot" and will be in the knots and rigs section

On the spinning setup I bring 50lb powerpro into hollow braid, and then go out with .90-1mm leader

Currently doing it with dacron, till I get the hollowcore braid

Absolutely no knots

Knots is the devil lol

So in theory I stay on atleast 50lb min

Its hook and hold, so no place for weaklinks

Hope the photo loads

I come into dacron with 50lb power pro braid, go out and come back in a few times, about 40cm later I come out again and make a 10 turn uni knot around the dacron

From the other side I work .90 fluoro into the dacron, also about 40cm into it

I leave about 5cm space between the braid and mono, so that the dacron can pull flat under pressure

Basically a wind-on leader without the loop

I hooked a small raggie (about 30kg) and pulled it very hard and everything held, no jokes, I PULLED

But its still in test phase, no guarentees

That's pretty much the way it's done with the hollow spectra.

Only thing is 130lbs hollow spectra is same diameter as 50lbs dacron.

Make the leaders up beforehand with 130lbs spectra connector with a 100lbs section spliced in.

to connect thread in, in the manner you described and end with 10 turn uni-knot.

Get yourself a bow serving tool and fill the bobbin with floss, simply spinning it around the hollow and solid braids serves it off and it will lock the whole setup and using the tool is super simple and with the hollow braid locking down on the solid braid it is a failsafe option, bit longer but simple

Or use 60lbs hollow core, splice your prepared leader with 130lbs to 100lbs direct to your mainline creating a 100% secure join with 100% breaking strain and the 60lbs hollow core gives you an absolute breaking strain of 90lbs when spliced or 60lbs when knotted

Howzit Enigma - yup, the JB Hollowcore is a revelation! On Jigging gear I run JB hollow (white) as mainline, and approaching leader I splice in 80lb hollow a section of +- 2M (white) and then into 130lb hollow +- 2m(white) and then splice mono leader inside the 130 hollow. Leader material up to around 200lb for abrasion resistance.

Neatly served off and it is AMAZING, strong and very "slim".

Amazing stuff...... got snagged onto Mother Africa in August...... and held a 28' mono anchored in a 3kt current. No connection failures! Eventually, we had to tie off on a cleat and BREAK the JB Line One 60lb mainline using the motors!

Lost around 70m of 60lb hollow, but in a few minutes I had spliced in another 70m and back in business.

I swear by the stuff now!

Cheers, RB

Now I just have to come visit. Glad the rod is living up to expectation.

Gues there's already lots of Ooohs and Aaaahs and they're going to get louder when the guys see what you're still going to land with that rod - I'm looking forward to a nice pic of a St Francis Tail with that rod.
