Well done Ian...what a experience it was...fighting a baboon and galjoen at the same time......lolSo, I caught my first galjoen. I went to Giffkommetjie today and as I was baiting up I saw a group of baboons coming buy. I then made my first cast while keeping an eye on the baboons and noticed that the leader of the group and his side-kick was coming closer. The next moment he stormed me and at the same time I got a nice bite and then hooked the fish. So, I had the fish on the line and a storming screaming baboon getting closer. I kept the line tight, put my backpack on my back and started screaming at the baboon. He probably wanted to scare me and grab my stuff but I was not going to allow that. After two minutes of shouting at each other he stopped and retreated back to the group. I then got my fish out!! That's how I got my first galjoen. Got a couple nice pulls after that but with no luck.
The galjoen was 30cm, so he went back. Hopefully next time I will get a sizer!
I think I would have been safe because I left my phone and wallet in the car!Nice report Ian ! At least you didn't run into a Cape flats Baboon !! LOL !!
