Yep, that could also be true carpoholic20... who knows.
Best thing to do when you catch such a big fish is to take multiple photos. Its a catch of a lifetime, so I would want the best photo possible of it... 1 photo is very risky... anyway, just my 2c... :)

Hi

This photo is very difficult to see if it is Photoshop or not if you look you cant really see the guy hands under the fish but what ever if it is real or a doctored photo he is only bluffing himself on the end....like the guy I met this week to me he got 2 Barbel with in a hour both 22kg each....I mean what is the change ....most anglers don t even caught that size barbel in their whole live...

I've personally seen 4 fish over 20kg in Harties 3 at Oberon (Swartspruit side) and 1 from Schoemansville and the biggest was also 23kg. 3 of theses were common carp and the other a mirror.

If this was a legit fish I don't know but it was for sure a big fish but a shitty pic.

I wouldn't put in the long day/night sessions with all the theft that takes place at night (unless you're in the secured and guarded areas like Oberon)

The netting might just be a good thing. I had a long chat with the contracted netters. They are ahead of quota and were netting up to 2t of fish a day in summer and 800kg (max) in winter, they have suspended operations due to being ahead of quota.

The vast majority of the fish being netted are small fish thereby relieving the pressure on the bigger ones. The dam remains vastly over populated and the control measures will definitely have a positive effect on the water ecology and quality.

Biggest fish I've seen in Bronkies was a 23.2kg common, caught on a #2 van der Merwe with 6 kaboems on and dropped in 11m water at 300m at Baja Dam, that was a common

I dont know what to say,its just a miracle he landed such a big carp with the tackle he was using.

But wow what a nice fish i must say it looks a bit like a harties carp.

What bugs me about the photo is the fact that you cant even make out his hands, to me that is what you look at when trying to estimate the weight of a fish from a photo, especially on the anal fin side. Even though the photo is not a good a one by any standards you can still make out lines and there is a bit of contrast on the rest of the photo but his hands are a complete blur.

What was even more disturbing is that the guy said he was reluctant to let the fish go, WTF? What are you going to do with the fish in any case fool?
To prove to you guys that the photo was'nt doctored mate.
It is definitely not acceptable to keep a fish or a carp of that size just to prove the photo is real or fake.
:fbashI threw in that comment to stir the thread a bit, lol. Was said tongue in cheek. But arguing this or that about the photo will bring us just as close to the truth as about who REALLY shot JFK.

ag nou ja - whatever... I'm soooo not concerned about guys elevating weights - I mean what for anyway ? ( Some limelight?)

If it's real - well done to the angler - If not ... shameful !!!

Not an interesting topic anyway !!!

I agree with enigma on the harties netting subject, i love that dam and support the netting... if i remember correctly the netting can only take fish up to 4kg... the bigger ones cant be caught in them, although they can be hurt... I also agree with Ryan saying that the source of the problem must be treated first (i.e all the waste and rubbish) and then the problem... But if you can treat both at the same time... Even better..

Oberon is news to me, if their security improves ill go camping there again...

Im off to Harties this weekend, gonna feed on Saterday and Hopefully start catching some on Sunday and Monday... Cant wait!!

This carps mouth definitely looks A bit bigger then the world record carps mouth? It is A good way to see if A photo of A carp has been modified, Look at the the size of the mouth, it looks like this carp can easily swallow A tennis ball, even a base ball? Why is it that all the carp I have ever seen that is bigger than 23kg mouths almost half the size of this one? I might definitely be wrong its just an interesting observation. I would also think A carp that size is worth more than one photo? Anyways, I am still dreaming of A fish that size! Congrads to all who caught A fish that size!

It does look as if someone pasted in himself holding the fish. The lighting doesn't look right. There are so many claims about big carp being caught. I have spoken to a few anglers who claimed to have caught carp over 30kg. When you enquire the details they give answers like the fight was about 5 to 6 hours! Excuse me??? And of course, no photo's...so if someone claims a big carp capture, my first response is, picture please...if he only has one bad quality photo and a shaky story, I'm sure I will be forgiven for being suspicious. Even if you only have a "mik and druk" take a few pictures, and measure the fish. Now if he had provided measurements that would have been interesting...The carp looks really big for just under 24kg. I would estimate the weight more towards 27 to 28kg, but that's why we have scales...and photographs...and tape measures...

If it's real, WOW, if it's fake...ai tog!
