Thanks guys.
According to Tomcat the entire rig with trailer and motors will come in at approx 2500kg so a 3000kg winch for just the boat should be fine.
Besides, I will be launching mostly from a slipway
To be honest, I also think 6000 is too small.
Dragging something straight on wheels is different to pulling it up on an incline. You can push a car but try lifting it... Also, that is rated when the drum is empty, you will only have 60% of that with a full drum of cable.
My boat weighs about that and I only just get by with 9000 Lb winch. I replace my battery once a year because it is loading heavy... wish I had a 12000Lb. You can use a 6000 but you will need to use a snatch block. In an ideal world, you want 12000lb winch and you cut the cable 10m shorter. As the cable takes wear, it requires more space on the drum and can jam.
In my very honest opinion... Get at least a 9000 Lb winch or even better a 12000Lb winch.
If it's a cost issue, You can get a 9000Lb Come up (that's what I use) for around R4500 from Accessories Spares.
