Ha ha good one! Im glad it was worth the your wait!

Thanks to guys like you I do not have to go through the same hell path - I'm really glad I listened and went the TC route - would have hated to be on the receiving end of " I told you so"

Now to endure the wait for "aTom Bomb" ;);)

Hi Aqua fan. Have you decided on the trailer setup. Perhaps good opportunity to start reviewing your options for tires, axles, spring wrapping, bearing protection, walk on boards, brakes, self centering rollers etc. You are spending a lot of $$$$$$$ on your boat. Do not "skim" on a trailer.

Trailer is being built by Tomcat themselves - oil filled axle, 15 inch tyres, complete roller system incl tunnel rollers, fully galvanised with running boards as well as 6000lb electric winch.
Trailer should be ready this week!

Is your boat going to be anti-fouled or are you going to launch and retrieve every trip?

What are they rushing you for the trailer?

R45k and I bought the winch for R5600
That is a damn good price. Those axles are expensive.

Congrats awesome boat.
TomCat do make a good trailer one of the easiest to load.
I am a little worried that a 6000lb winch may be a bit light for a 21ft with the big 4 strokes but if you use a snatch block when you load should be ok.

Thanks guys.

According to Tomcat the entire rig with trailer and motors will come in at approx 2500kg so a 3000kg winch for just the boat should be fine.

Besides, I will be launching mostly from a slipway

To be honest, I also think 6000 is too small.

Dragging something straight on wheels is different to pulling it up on an incline. You can push a car but try lifting it... Also, that is rated when the drum is empty, you will only have 60% of that with a full drum of cable.

My boat weighs about that and I only just get by with 9000 Lb winch. I replace my battery once a year because it is loading heavy... wish I had a 12000Lb. You can use a 6000 but you will need to use a snatch block. In an ideal world, you want 12000lb winch and you cut the cable 10m shorter. As the cable takes wear, it requires more space on the drum and can jam.

In my very honest opinion... Get at least a 9000 Lb winch or even better a 12000Lb winch.
If it's a cost issue, You can get a 9000Lb Come up (that's what I use) for around R4500 from Accessories Spares.

With a bit of practice I should actually be able to ride the boat completely onto the trailer with hardly any winching - this I hav been doing with my current 17foot.
The winch is just a fall back during initial trailering and for those days when you just too tired to hold concentration and drive the boat onto the trailer - so Im not too concerned.
I did get a snatch block with the winch which will also help if the winch is underpowered.

I dont think that you have been to Accessories Spares in a while - went there last week and they quoted me R9000 excl vat for the Comeup 9000 and R7600 excl for the 6000

Went to Mr Winch and got the Comeup 6000 for R5600 incl and they quoted me R7500 for the 9000.
I decided on the 6000 as it was narrower and more compact and it was still well within capability.

Agree with Bennie.
Remember there is 2.2kg to a pound so your winch is only rated 2727kg,at full drum that is only 1636kg.
Then there is also all the tackle, safety gear, spare petrol, fish, etc that will add more weight.
My 9500 sometimes battles with my 19ft TC.

If you are mainly using a slipway and very seldom going to launch from a beach you might get away with it as long as you use a snatch block, for each snatch block you double the pulling power. Unfortunately it is not practical to use more then one on a trailer.
If you do decide to go bigger with the winch don't waste your money on the cheap Chinese imports they really don't last.

Your 21' is going to be heavier than my 19' obviously. My experience has been that it is just fine with the manual winch. I have a nylon strap and would not have cable at any price. Having said that I never have to load a beached boat but I do have to deal with very shallow water where the rollers are just barely submerged, but at least level. My trailer has an extension boom so the vehicle can push it back futher. She comes up easliy as the trailer is well designed and you do need some exercise to keep in shape! Jokes aside, what the guys say makes sense. Maybe see if you can return it and go to the 9000 before the winch becomes second hand. it is not as if you are trying to save pennies......yes, I know, where does it stop??

The mounting plate and housing has already been made for the 6000 - no turning back now - I have a snatch block which does double the capacity. Also have the manual winch as a backup - I do need the exercise anyway lol btw my crew will be doing the winching - they got to pay somehow:spite for their ride!

Did Peter fit the winch to your vehicle?
