Bloemhof bonanza

Weet enige een hoe die ablusie geriewe by sandveld is? Ek wil graag my vrou en twee kindertjies (6 en 3) saam vat. Sal terugvoer waardeer.

Facilities are good. Hot and cold water and flush toilets.

Thanx christofer. Would you recommend taking a wife and children with. Ive never been there and do not know the conditions regarding safety and the competition.

Safety is not a concern there. Monkeys are a nuisance and there are a couple of big males that can pose safety risks to small children but I doubt they will come too close with all the people there for the Bonanza.

The facilities are very good but with a lot of people using them (some of which will probably mess them up)they might become dirty. They have built a new ablution block close to the entrance that is very nice. I am certain that there will be persons employed to clean up with the masses that are expected to attend.

The only issues that I have have ever heard of there was that the steel pegs used for zoning for competitions were taken by a guy for scrap but they caught him red handed the same time.

As with the carp comps held there now in April the SAPS gave a written undertaking that the social unrest that has plagued that area would not affect the championships but one must question their ability to protect you out there on the bank. It is quiet there now so don't let that concern you.

Bloemhof is a beautiful place with amazing locals. If there is trouble it will most definitely come from other anglers as unfortunately is the case.

Bloemhof is maybe the safest venue you can find in the country. I have two family members there in the sapd and one in the water unit. Thy say as well, the bigest trouble makers is those anglers, sorry you can't call them anglers, that don't respect the person next to them and take the competition as a drinking party an nice outing to get drunk.

Most difficult fishing I ever had. At Sandveld a lot of the guys pact up on Saturday. You could not fish less than 70 m and taking you bate out to 150-200m you just could not get fish out ower the trees and structures. I had a lot of hook ups but o dear . The boats did well. Bomboes spruit as well. Winning fish came from there. 9.2kg. Big banger was won with a 23.7 barnel. Average winning fish 5kg. The tournament was well organised. Barkley had awesome prices. Me myself won a 5000 gift voucher. Just dont know how to spend it.

Thanks for the feedback. Ja look the snags are a huge issue now with the water level being high. Well done for participating and not giving up and for winning that prize!!

Bamboesspruit is just legendary no other way to describe it so I am not surprised the winning fish came from there.

What baits did you find worked the best? Did you try small leads and single hooks?

I tried FX. and strong boll dips to start with. TCP GUMTREE AND GARLIC. And then took it thru with mostly with my own mix. With Tjop thop. SApowder with every 5th cast. Yes one hook only from beginning. But there was a hole bunch of thorn bushes right in the middle of my swim. And the carp snaged me there time and again.

Hi there fishing gurus
i have recently joined the world of fishing and have been around a few dams
my bucket list is to go to Bloemhof dam

reading the blogs on sealine is always great but just know i want to get together a team of anglers from ur Church mens fellowship and head out to Bloenhif
we are coming in from Centurion in Pretoria and would appreciate all the tips we can get
we camp and fish for carp (papgoie) and specimen
me personally i need to grab a barbel
not been so lucky until now

Bloemhof is usually an easy dam to catch carp or barbel as long as the temperature is right. It was deadly cold last week, but the temperatures are rising.

Sandvelt is R100 per night and Bloemhofdam nature reserve is R90 per night for 5 or 6 people I think.

Yes, don't camp near the bridge where everyone else is, drive down the road to the wooden chalets and camp in that area. It's about 6-10km into the reserve if I have to take a wild guess. You can go further if you like to be private.
