Big Fish Safari

I have recently purchased the new volume from big fish safari.I have to say that i was very concerned about what i saw. What i observed was that out of all the fish that were caught on the deep sea trip only Hennies one sailfish was returned safetlt to the water.

I do realise and also believe that if it's your first fish then yes by all means keep it as a trophy if that's what your want.Having said this technology has advanced to suc an extent that if you supply a manufacturer wuth the details of your catch then they can make you an exact replicar of your catch,so if possible please return these beautiful specimens.Secondly there were aot of fish taken for the pot as they said, bot that pot of theirs must have really been a huge one because they never stopped. They also kept a big Saily as a trophy which i didnt really mind as it was his first.

They hooked i think about three Giant Kings and of these one was chowed by a huge shark or cuda and the other two were kept. They also caught alot of cuta as well so i didn't see the need to take so many big kingies because cuta are such good eating fish.

I don't intend bashing Big Fish it's just that Hennie Could have voiced his opinion about catch and release before filing the episode and thus maybe prevented some of these fish being killed for no apparent reason..

If any of you guy's have seen this episode i would like your opninions on what you guy's think.

Hi Riymos,

I'll second u on that anytime. It's the worst Volume yet. Can't understand it, go all the way to Kenya & keep every catch, except for 1:shock:. I wonder what must have come of those fish:?, did they bring it back to S.A..

Cheers

Well i aslo wondered about that if they brought it back but can you imagine the excess baggage rate they must have had to pay with that amount of fish im sure they would have been able to feed half of Kenya, lol lol

But on a serious note it was definately disturbing to see i mean i could see that these guy's were ameture anglers but then surely Hennie could have advised them about the beauty of catch and release,Isn't it an onus on us anglers who have been educated on catch and release to educate others and at least try and make a concious effort to prevent these sorts of things from happening time and time again.

Yeh, Hennie is/was also on the tag & release program, But just don't understand what went wrong, maybe because tagging & releasing with S.A. tags can only be done in S.A. ,or for some other reason hopefully a good 1.

Think I will send Big Fish Safari a  message about this, maybe we can get some feedback.

cheers

You know what i agree with you i don't seem to understand he is not normally like that.I have a feeling about that trip and again i will stress that this is just my opinion and a thought not the bibles truth so to say.

I think and also know that it is verry hard to always get good fishing footage especially when you have to produce such a vast amount of footage for a DVD or TV show.So what i feel is that Hennie just tagged along on this trip just to get some footage and save himself the cost of having to hire the boat accomadation and all the production costs that go with filming a show like that.

I really don't mind him having done this but hey! not at the cost of the marine enviroment and personal reputation. What i do feel is that he probably could'nt say mush because they were calling the shots, even so that to me is no excuse he could have drawn the line between right and wrong..

Some times ethics and values mean more then just making money..I have enjoyed most of the volumes of Hennies especially the Saltwater ones but this one i must saywas one id rather forget, infact the bonus footage was more exciting for me to watch him catch those talapia or Kurpe on the river then watching them slaughter those bif fish out at sea.

Guys

I agree, no need to kill fish, just because you'd like to take a trophy home, or because you think you might not get some of what you've caught on the line again very soon or for any wahtsovere reason that has greed and inconsideration  as a point of departure. That's plainly just stupid behaviour.

Everybody talks about sustainable groth and the likes but very few realize that it's not up to big Corps. and Companies, and Gov. Depts. to ensure that species don't go extinct, it's up to each and every single one of us in our Country to make sure that we save our resources.

If a Japanese fishing trwaler netts two tons in our coastal waters we wanna shoot Cruise missiles at them , but if 200 anglers each kills a fish weighing ten 10kg's then it's fine, no prob there.

Really, if you catch and you want to eat it, fine then do so, but don't be greedy man, and don't be inconsiderate and have the attitude "It's not my problem".

Just my 2c worth of blowing off steam at stupid people.

Happy hunting those LGF's
