Howzit Guys,
We recovered this Bass boat from Albert Falls, I can safely say that if it was not for buoyancy it would be lying flat on the ground!!!
Ok clever dicks!! My Pc crashed before I could
How so??Lemon, it has been calculated before and presented to samsa that 30% buoyancy is not enough to keep a vessel afloat - and the bigger the motor the worse it gets ! In deep enough water the boat wil almost always sink to the bottom.
That the guy was working the shallows is what kept the boat from sinking completely !
If it was possible to do, and the boat owner went to a bit of trougble to calculate the foam / weight around the transom area, the outcome could have been different.
Lets say the whole boat kept afloat, and the motor was kept above the water, he would have experienced a lot less damage to the motor even though the whole hull got flooded.
He may still have limped to the launch and save the resque operation. In almost all cases the foam installed would have cost a lot less then the damages, but as was said before, the guys would prefer to spend R2500 on a reel and only R50 to keep the rig afloat. Doesn't make sense !
Thanks for sharing - I'm sure there's a slim chance someone will go to a bit more trouble.
