Hannes,

All of those clips will work in some way or other, some of them can be pressure adjusted and some need those funny clips to put your line in,the ceramic rings I suspect serves the same purpose, mainline goes through it then tie on terminal rig,and then put the ceramic or stainless ring in the clip. Most of those clips,in fact all of them are what I would call in-line clips,so you have to tie them to your kite,by cutting it (the one with the wire loops) or your kite-line slides through it,which is why you need the ring or funny-clip to face the right way for your line to pass through.

I rummaged through some stash just now, and took another pic of various clips just to recap again. They are all different ,yet all will work if one applies your mind a little, nothing is cast in stone,as you'll note from the home-made Aluminium barrel release clip that is swivel dependent and works with a split-pin.

Some of them are AFTCO-clips ,like some of yours,if your mate can get you the AFTCO's he will be able to get you the Roller-troller clip (with the clip-on swivel attached)it is the easiest to adjust,(note the steps on the locking slide for differing weights,7 or 8 settings if memory serves me) and most sensitive to your needs. If the guys that put a spread out for Marlin etc trust them not to damage their lines, then so do I,the design is as such that your line .50mm plus cannot get trapped in any way in the clip.

The red ones are actually freshwater release clips(beleive it or not) they "pinch"your leadr with a screw setting and is thus pressure sensitive(wont hold enough weight for saltwater baits)

Each will work in some way or other,it only needs a bit of experimenting.

Cheers

And while I was scratching for old stuff,I bumped into this old beauty, the old "baby" of my dad's collection of some time back,This one is the Penn 12/0 we also used the 14/0 and 16/0 the "baitcaster" next to it is a Trinidad.........50. Guess which angling discipline suffered most when beach-driving was banned, lol Nowadays it can be done on a much lighter scale,::S

LOL, The Shimmies were those on special a few years back,if you buy the big one you get one size smaller free, like if you buy the 50 they give you a 30,then if you buy a 20 they give you the 16 which doesnt feature in the photo(busy with the drag),,lol as told to the better half. Somehow I think she doesn't believe me.

Yes it is Dacron on the 12/0 and I would guess about 80lbs, system used :kite stable at 80 meters, fly out to 130meters, serious clip-on swivel to Dacron looped with dacron loop-knot,30 meter drop,at 15 meters on drop, peg black refuse bag off-cuts for marker,,tie end of drop to 10 meters of 400lbs steel fitted with some butcher's hooks , a 1-3 kg bait.add 300ml floatation/ballast- bottle to knot at steel(300ml allowed for compo's in the 80's,social, use anything up to 2liter bottle .

Let the whole lot go off the beach, everything controlled by the 12/0 on Purglas /8 with gimbal.(preferably with custom swivelling rod stand,(will post pics later)The ballast bottle is to ensure that the kite does not lift bait out of the water if wind picks up.(filled as necessary with water or sand) Fly out untill 600-800meters or as per dacron capacity,Dacron is heavy and sags quite a lot, could even start touching water over 300 meters,Two kites can also be deployed if you have no height behind you and you dont reach required distance with one kite, before dacron hangs in the water(big no no).

Find cooler box, light a fire, and watch marker,at night replace marker with light-stick.

ps,as  kite swivel gets near rod-tip,braaier  winds kite-line around arm a couple of times, then unclips and angler left with last 30 meters of dacron to pull fish,if no beach behind angler, braaier removes peg holding refuse bag marker, and angler can retrieve until 10 meter steel-leader/trace.easy peasy.

This is the old school-method,there will be many variations of it,but basically it is how it worked twenty odd years ago.

Very heavy tackle involved, which today with the advent of backing, and drags may not be necessary, and I have often wondered how many baits were dragged past the fish just behind the backline, which is basically where you want to be.

I Know I'm going about this all wrong , I Just Know it . and I'm going to Pay the Price , Much the same as I do when I use clip on swivels n K@k on my Throw baits ( One stands there afterwards and thinks" what was I THINKING?!?!?!?!??! ")

so , Ja . I'm going to do the Knock N drop- If the bonny Or Bait goes airbourne after 65 Metres from a Light gust of wind it's going to Look spectacular and funny from The each , at the Same time ...

The Release of the Bait . that's all the bothers Me . I LOve that Pulley system i Read about somewhere .still need to figure out how to

A: have it hold onto the bait long enough to use the pulley system , and then

B: make it Let Go .

Def, That set-up is necessary no more bud,not with todays tackle and lines etc etc, jeez that set-up will kill you if you have to slog it around, havent flown it for about 5 years and even then it was only for sentimental reasons (call back the past, lol) Maybe again one day ,but really not soon. The old ballies back in the day were strong, foolhardy ,but strong.

As far as that pulley rig goes, you can use it with all those clips Hannes showed, the setting must just be enough that the bait doesn't fall off halfway to backline, and not tight enough that it doesn't disengage upon pick-up.Worst case scenario,is the kite helps you tire the fish, your buddy may just have to "play" the kite in with your catch,I say buddy, for a reason,  many an attorney will testify that just a ballhair's breadth, before infidelity  ,kitefishing, is the quickest way to get rid of an unwanted spouse.LOL

To BE SHARED WITH FRIENDS AND SONS.LOL

Def, on that pulley thingamagoodie, lets make it simple, fly kite out,say60-80 meters, attach pulley clip to kite line, take your regular big-bait casting set-up,with Bonnie-head, just use maybe 4oz grapnel instead of eight. Before you tie your leader to your trace (so between your Bimini/Spider/leader-Figure 8, and your terminal trace) slide one of those lumo-beads on to leader, now tie swivel with Bonnie and sinker.

Now put your line in that puley-roller troller and close it,let your bait and sinker dangle from it aahaa setting tight enough, now give it a lekker jerk, unclips ,bakgat ,no unclipping set a little bit looser, repeat until dangle, turns into bait and sinker unhooking, at a lekker jerk.

Now ,your connection gives line on the kite and at equal pace you give line on your fishing reel, keeping that bead now against the pulley of the clip,(Bimini and figure 8 shouldl easily go through it as well)  let it go,more ,more, more, bait and sinker is now airborne or pulling through the water,if not pulling, put lighter sinker(cut bonnie smaller),  there it goes now, keeping it just above the water(this is now where people start gathering as they think you are targetting gannets or seagulls, just let it go,the lumo-bead is stopping your terminal rig/swivel from going through the pulley and at the same time, protecting your leader to swivel knot.

300 meters out, shout whoaa,to your kite flyer, now, you can gently give line on your rod and lower your bait into the water,if by chance the weight of your mainline over the distance is too heavy for bait and sinker to gently go down to the bottom of the dam, then retrieve fast  untill the bead now sits against the pulley, and give a fierce jerk,.....there it unclips and your bait is in position A.

In an extreme case and your bait doesnt unclip, give your fishing rod line slack, check that your tackle box isn't behind you ,now ask the guy with the kite to pay out line as fast as possible, whilst you quickly take up all your slack and even run a bit backwards (remember tackle-box) taking up all the slack and stretch from the line and strike vehemently, lol, beware, bystanders may now think you allready have hooked into a fish and you are setting the hooks, lol some of them are running away ,and your'e not sure if they are going to call more people or if they are en-route to the kite-shop,either way ignore them,,,,your bait is now in the water and you gently take up slack, and you may want to retrieve the kite to return the favour for your buddy.

Told you it was easy.

It not that I do not want to do it any more it is that the wind is not always right and you got to bee about two or three guys and it not easy,I have lost a few kites,it is fun when the wind is right and you let the kite fly and you put that bait out at 400 to 500 meters out.
i will bring the things i have with on Wednesday for you to see.
