Is that Penn 12/0 loaded with darcon? Its a nice collection of Trini's you got there. Now i can take you up seriously cause the man uses SHIMANO......
LOL, The Shimmies were those on special a few years back,if you buy the big one you get one size smaller free, like if you buy the 50 they give you a 30,then if you buy a 20 they give you the 16 which doesnt feature in the photo(busy with the drag),,lol as told to the better half. Somehow I think she doesn't believe me.
Yes it is Dacron on the 12/0 and I would guess about 80lbs, system used :kite stable at 80 meters, fly out to 130meters, serious clip-on swivel to Dacron looped with dacron loop-knot,30 meter drop,at 15 meters on drop, peg black refuse bag off-cuts for marker,,tie end of drop to 10 meters of 400lbs steel fitted with some butcher's hooks , a 1-3 kg bait.add 300ml floatation/ballast- bottle to knot at steel(300ml allowed for compo's in the 80's,social, use anything up to 2liter bottle .
Let the whole lot go off the beach, everything controlled by the 12/0 on Purglas /8 with gimbal.(preferably with custom swivelling rod stand,(will post pics later)The ballast bottle is to ensure that the kite does not lift bait out of the water if wind picks up.(filled as necessary with water or sand) Fly out untill 600-800meters or as per dacron capacity,Dacron is heavy and sags quite a lot, could even start touching water over 300 meters,Two kites can also be deployed if you have no height behind you and you dont reach required distance with one kite, before dacron hangs in the water(big no no).
Find cooler box, light a fire, and watch marker,at night replace marker with light-stick.
ps,as kite swivel gets near rod-tip,braaier winds kite-line around arm a couple of times, then unclips and angler left with last 30 meters of dacron to pull fish,if no beach behind angler, braaier removes peg holding refuse bag marker, and angler can retrieve until 10 meter steel-leader/trace.easy peasy.
This is the old school-method,there will be many variations of it,but basically it is how it worked twenty odd years ago.
Very heavy tackle involved, which today with the advent of backing, and drags may not be necessary, and I have often wondered how many baits were dragged past the fish
just behind the backline, which is basically where you want to be.
