The SA Air Force will embark on a Rhino Day campaign in September, it said on Wednesday. The campaign would signify the force's environmental obligations, specifically in the Waterkloof Air Force Base's satellite unit, spokesperson Lynnette Booysen said.
The unit forms part of the Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve situated near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.
The campaign would include various activities, including the sale of t-shirts branded with the campaign's slogan.
Local schools would participate in a poster competition aimed at educating pupils on the impact of saving rhino, said Booysen.
On 19 September, members of the force would decorate 22 rhino statues as part of a competition.
The ten best statues would be auctioned at Waterkloof officers mess on 20 September, which marked the end of the campaign.
"All proceeds generated through this initiative will be donated to the Endangered Wildlife Trust," Booysen said.
