A Quick Session Report

I did an afternoon session at one of the local dams in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town about 2 weeks ago. Had 3 runs and landed 2 carp in the 2 hours I had my line in the water. First one was about 5kg, second one about 2kg and the last run slow and heavy and broke me off in the reeds.

I used the new Novateur Food Source Groundbait and a plain yellow floatie. No dips just groundbait. I shot in a few balls of groundbait with a bait kettie as I was only fishing at about 40m.

First freshwater session for me in 8 months after a long and hard rock & surf fishing season! It was fun on light 8ft rods!

Nice one Steffan. What dam did you go to in the Northern Subs - I am looking for a reliable local spot.

Majic Forest Top Dam. Just below the Van Riebeeckshof Spar.

All dams in the Northern Suburbs have a ban on fishing, but they stopped policing this ban years ago except at Sonstraal and Vierlanden dams. It' a R 30 fine if law enforcement rocks up.

If the dam is on public land, then the freshwater is public land and being licensed have a right to fish there if you choose. When younger we used to paddle kayaks down rivers all over the place and believe me freshwater is public unless enclosed by private land. Then we have our constitution and your bill of rights and subsequently you say no thank you to their fine and deny their authority which they as public SERVANTS do not have over you and ask for them to take you to court rather which never happens and if does will respect your basic rights first as is law.

Only a judge can tell you to part with your cash as a fine, the rest of them who think they can fine you have to make you sign a piece of paper, ie contract/fine, to contract you into paying the cash they want from you. They cannot demand it, they are your servants and you can just refuse to sign or accept a fine, it is well your right. They are there to serve you, same for cops and traffic cops.

Oh nice fish BTW :) Nice to mix up the fishing for a change..
