4kg Rainbow, Tarawera New Zealand

My old man moved to NZ not too long ago and is having the time of his life with his fly rods, he sent me this pic of a recent rainbow he caught claiming a weight of 4kg, it is a beaut.
I have no idea this fish was released or not, I know he normally releases the big ones.

Beaut fish , I take it he caught it on South Island ?

Beaut of a fish, well done! One day I will fish NZ, one of my dream destinations. I doubt the fish was released though, not if its being held in the gills. But there is nothing wrong with taking a fish for the pot every now and again. Trout taste pretty damn good after all.
