worm identification

its an interesting debate...arent black mussels closed when exposed to air (low tide) and open when submerged (high tide)- allowing the diluted detergent to wash off before penetrating the organism? Excuse the the pun- but i reckon i opened a can of worms on this one!

I swear I will go after them with a spade if I see that happening. You are only allowed to use your hands if I read the regulations correctly.

I normally use Lemon juice to get the musselworm to crawl out from the mussels. I'm sure its got no effect on the mussel organism itself. I have done it a few time on the same bed off mussels over a period of a few years and it doesnt look like its doing any damage to the mussel beds... Normally if one sprays the lemon juice over the mussels they close up, but keep in mind worms are not the only organims living between the mussels theres alot of other little creature that stays in there, so for the handy andy thing i wouldn't recomend...

nice one hannes 101- i'll definitively try that approach before the handy andy. its quite weird though- I've come across very similar looking worms in the sand in cape point reserve. They start off looking like earthworms but when they get going they have multiple legs like the berkley comoworm, have a red inner core and get aggro as hell!I've used them a couple of times with no success yet- they have a very strong earthy odour to them- which i imagine would call those gallies in from far! As for the real Berkley camo worms I've tried presenting the red one and the greenish/brown one on light tackle where i KNOW there are Gallies about, but have not had a nibble on them yet...I still pack them in and take 'em for a swim when the organic bait runs out 'cos i really like the idea of artificials, but Ja- losing faith...

i have found that wonderworms, and most other worms can be kept alive for a number of weeks.its quite simple actually.take a handfull or two of beach sand (wet), put the worms in the sand ,mix thouroughly , then wrap in a damp cloth or slightly damp newspaper.wrap again wih dry newspaper and put in a normal fridge.take out quantity needed to fish and leave the balance.will last weeks!works for almost all worms , provided there are enough nutrients for them in the sand.AVOID the WIFE throwing out the bait,so DONT put in a visible spot in the fridge!!!

Dit is nie 'n mosselwurm nie. Ek het ook al van hulle gekry, en hy bly in 'n pypie tussen die rooiaas koppe.

It is not a mussel worm or coral worm, go have a look in two Oceans Book and you will see nice pics.

Using chemicals in the ocean is not on.
