Problem with all jigs IMHO is you only really know which ones are top  when you drop them and jig with them for long periods OR get the respected opinions of guys who have spent long hours with them ( Gman etc) . These guys like Matsutani San, Poni Liu, Chris Wong and co' spend hours on the water with their jigs - I'm sure the SA guys doing the same - the odd legendary jig will then emerge. The 7 seas hooker 1 is old but still a champion for tuna species.

Great efforts by the local guys - keep it up lads.

But hey Roy - still lekker to look at that expensive shiny stuff.

I know that Roy can supply custumized versions of the FCL Labo SL Jig (Glenn says is one of his 3 top jigs for AJ and Tuna), the lighter ones not that 840 monster.

I never needed to use jigs above 400g for AJs, and also like jigs with good hydrodinamics (easy to use) when fishing AJ's.

But tottaly agree with you "only know when dropped down and tested".

Thanks Bennie - we all learning hey.

Fed - gees and Glen certainly earns huge respect from all with his AJ ( and other big fish) fishing record. He knows !! Those 840's more like a collectors item hey - bragging rights jig - only 10 were made with first run. On the button ref the hydrodynamics - amazing how jigs that can look so similar feel totally different on the way down and up. I am the same - tend to lean towards the ones that dont burn my shoulders too much !! But also accept that the weight gets you on the spot quickly before the boat drifts off the structure.

Facinating report this - a rock in 40m of water and they hauled fish on 370 and 470 gram jigs... when I get into 40m its time to put on a 200 grammer, crack a beer and relax !!! The very jigs you said you  liked in first pic Fed....

I've never had the oportunity for kingies but I suspect that jigs that work with kingies work also with Amberjacks....

I've got a spot in the extreme south of Angola (Namibe) that's like what you're saying, the current is so strong that even not being deep you have to use heavy jigs.

FANTASTIC  Fed  -    these  pics that you have moved epitomise the thrill of "jigfishing" !

For sure,  both yellowtail 'kingies' and AJ being cousins would enjoy same jigs. On one of the JM DVD's I have the guys use the same jigs catching AJ as they do in another DVD for "kingies".
