Guys that mostly use shimano reels, what would you say

would be the right size reel for the right lenght rod.

For eg. i use a 6000 on a 12ft rod, but is it suitable for a 13ft ? Would it be too

small ? or should i use a 8000/10000 reel on a 13 ft rod ?

Any advice frm you guys.((r(e(ling

Not always dependent on the rod. I'd say its more dependent on the strength of line you intend on using, the distance you'll be fishing and the stiffness of the rod (casting weight). Alot of facktors go into it. If the fish you'll be targeting on the 12ft the same as the 13t, there is no need for a bigger reel.

I use a size 10000 and big bits with my 12ft for casting 3-4oz sinkers. For my 10ft I use a size 4000,but its a much lighter rod, casting less than 1oz sinkers.

in my opinion the reel is not the problem but your rod and reel should compliment each other.

what I mean with that is that the combination of rod an reel must be balanced. it doesn't help you use a heavy real on a light rod, but you can use a light reel like a 6000 on a 13ft.

hope it makes sence

craig hould be able to shed more light on this.

So its ok to use my 6000 on a 13ft rod and get a good distance say like

150m+ .

the 6000 and 8000's are basically the same and the spools fit onto each other so why not.

i used my 6000's on 14ft rods before without any problem

I only use my 10 000's on all my rods, from 10 ft right through to 13 ft.
Less reels to carry around and I know my reels abilities.
No need for all the extra spare spools, etc.

My 2 cents.

I've got 10000's with 12ft rods, and the balance is perfect on em.... the lighter the line the better the combo as well.....:)

i'm gonna agree with every one is to feel the balance of reel on rod,

some times they complement each other well and some times u get a unballanced setup which is uncomfortable to fish.

i've been using 6000's on both 12's and 13's its felt quite comfortable to me.

but i have been thinking of getting 10 000's in an attempt to get more distance?

i am not a big shot on casting but before spending money on 10000's, rather concider using a thinner diameter line on you spools.
along with that make sure that your spools are full

thanks leonk

i am using some thing between a 0.18 - 0.21 line

but i thought that the bigger spool diamter will help gettting the line off faster.

There is no difference in outside diameter between the 6000,8000 and 10000 shimano bairunners. the extra capacity comes from reducing the inside diameter. So for casting it won't make a difference, if you're using a bait boat or dropping your lines with a boat and you need more line capacity you can go for a 10000.

thanks earth year for that information, didn't know that they were all the same.
that should put out of my head wanting to get new reels and waist money
