Whats going on?

The GOV says the recession is over!!! Well they got their info from the wrong economist, business is terrible at the moment. I know a lot of small business owners that are all in the same predicament, there's just nothing happening. A salesmen at one of the largest national hardware stores mentioned that they have retrenched a lot of staff and their turnover does not even meet 50% of their monthly target. Another fella I know works at a national equipment hire shop, they are sitting there twiddling their thumbs! It proves the industry I am in has hit rock bottom. Whats going on?

It seems as if you're in construction/home improvement and I think that even though the recession might be over people are still recovering from financial setback's which they might have picked up during the recession, so it's possible that alot of people will first be clearing debts before forking out cash on things like extending there house or any other renovations for that matter.

This thread is not meant to be negative, sharing info regarding your type of business can assist others that need to make decisions going forward, it does not mean you must own a business, tell us about the the field you currently operate in. We all know the economy is tight but there are always areas where money is going around.

@ Shino, I do maintenance on buildings as well as renovations and shopfitting. The work we currently busy with are small contracts, not the larger work that was going around during the last couple of years.

@ Thunder, good for you now you can buy that boat.

Fishing tackle trade is just as bad and we're at the end of the queue when it comes to handing out a few bucks.

We only see what's left after you've paid the bills and loans made in the bad times

Thunder us in the inland fishing market get the stuffing knocked out of us when it rains so much inland with the fluctuating water levels and the rain waiting to p$%$%s down each weekend, no-one fishes and then no-one is buying.

We're down but not out, least ways not yet

Tackle retailers are battling what do the manufacturers and distributors do? With winter approaching? Construction are doing well but the rest of the sectors are sukkeling to stay afloat talking about small to medium.

I think a lot of okes hold up to see what the effect of the next price hikes are going to be. It's not the end though, it seems some are already trying to compensate for these pesky toll gates they are putting up. Winter coming up, escom treatened as well...

We've been quite buzy this year so far, not fireworks though, just the essentials going down.

I run a dermatology clinic in Australia. Business here is slower than it has been in a while, due to the GFC but also the Governments policies starting to bite. My business has slowed around 20%. Could've been worse but people's stress have gone up so I see more cases related to stress. On the western side of the country the mining industry is booming and people are earning megabucks like there's no tomorrow, thanks to China!

seems like while most of the world is tightening the screws on trade with china, Australia is embracing it... i'm in the office automation industry and it's been quite a rollercoaster year for us...
