What is the Posseidon 3XH like for sliding etc?

Well said Doom11

It all depends on a persons budget and what you really want.

The problem is, once you have a custom rod you just want more and you appreciate the feel of custom rod and at the end of the day it is what you want.

Doom11, which Pentagon do you have. I am looking at the Shark Extreme meduim or Pantagon Heavy paired up with a TRINI 40.

The Gremlins team recommended that I go for the Shark Extreme Meduim. What do you think. I want to join the PE sealine trip for a fishing trip so that I can feel the difference between the haevy and the Extreme Meduim

Doom got the stick at R2700 initially and then bust it !!
After repairs and rebuild the total expenditure is well over 5 grand!

It is a Pentagon Heavy HMG with standard length sections.
@Arno - I got a Med Shark Extreme and I personally would take my old Pentagon Heavy HMG before I take the Med. My Heavy had the shorter heavy tip putting the stick at 13.2 ft.. Darrenk bought it from me and is now selling..

OH YES ! Definitely more "spine" throughout the Pentagon Heavy HMG especially the one I had with the short heavy tip.. That would be my next stick WHEN I have another done.

The Med Shark is way easier to cast because of the softer tip and is even shorter comming in at 12 ft some change depending on your choice of bottom sections. Also substantially lighter! Long hard battles are a lot more comfortable I must admit.. Think that part of the idea behind this range of stick.

Brendon of Gremlins can explain in more detail as to the difference in longer and shorter butt and mid sections.. has to do with your abilities and what you expect from the rod.

I think I got mine a little wrong, it a little soft for me, still a superb stick but I was thrown by the name thinking that it is a "heavier" and stronger stick than the regular Pentagon Heavy. I mean SHARK EXTREME should be just that, an EXTREME!

As to Doom's stick... was during a fight with a Rag and the walk down toward the beach that there was a larger swell together with the shark putting in a last surge and the blank just touched the pier. That little nic in the HMG was all it took to compromise the integrity of the blank and he broke it in his next big cast.

Spoke to Brendon at Gremlins and he reckons that for long days at the beach the Shark Extreme Meduim works better and paired up with a TRINI 40 it is mean combination. He reckon that I should take a cast with both rods before I decide what I must get.

The choice is either a Shark Extreme Meduim with extention or Pentagon Heavy with long tip. Will not be fishing of piers or high rock points so I would prefer a longer rod or a rod that I can cast a 9oz sinker from the beach and get good distance

Spoke to Trophy and told him that I would like to join the group for fishing trip and then if allowed feel all the different rods that everybody has before I get one myself.

Me and Crazy Shark want to get a rod from Gremlins but not certain of what to get, ecspecially me.

Time will tell

@Arno - the medium will be for you guy! I have mine paired with the Trini40 and it is indeed a sublime combo! You more than welcome to have a show with it whenever you want mate..

Can throw a 9 ounce out of sight and sooo comfortable!

That's the problem when a person starts speaking about rods and reels.

It is important that the rod and reel can be used for compos and that's why I think the Shark Extreme Meduim is the better option of the 2, but I will have to test both to finalize my choice.

Still need to make a plan to meet up with Trophy so that he can help me with my Wind ons and also slide traces with circles and also took look at his goodies he is marketing.

What are your plans for the weekend. Want to hit BWB and see if the Raggies are not still around, Most probably on Saturday afternoon and evening

And the Poseidon 3XH? How is the casting on that for the beach? Going to pair it with the Saltist 50H.

I must just get the correct line etc to fit onto it.

Revamping the reel and will post pics of the "before"and "after". Going to anodize the reel!

9oz sinker and you will get great distance with the rod. Good reel. Load it with 600m of 45lb King Fisher pro braid and 0.5mm nylon for top shot. Should be able to fit +/- 200 m of top shot on. PM Khan for prices on braid

Sorry for hi jacking your thread

The Poseidon 3XH is very under rated since the new HMG range has hit the market.

Dink jy gaan sukkel om 'n beter entry level stok te kry as die 3XH, meskien al ander stok wat ook na gekyk kan word is die Loomnis & Franklin Sharky.

Had a Sharky and I reckon it is a great rod. The only thing I would change and the Sharky is to take it to Errol and ask him to fit 16mm guides and a flip up. Do not know what the HMG Sahrky is like.

Sold my Sharky because I got a custom rod from Errol. Now I am planning on getting a custom Pentagon Heavy or Shark Extreme Meduim with extended but. Only time will tell what I will get.
