what are these fishies?

found these on the beach in st francis along with a lot of maasbankers and red grunters

Top one looks like a Glassnosed anchovy or a small Longjaw mackerel, and the two long ones are Ribbonfish.

The local comercials call those long ones "Ribbon snoek" we sometimes get them in the deep when they fall out of the stern trawler's nets. The small one, looks like some sorts of anchovie.

yeah I know, red grunter is a terrible name for them - rooi gor gor. the offshore version of piggies.

St Francis beach - the entire beach was littered with dead and dying fish. Think it was the sudden cold water bringing them so close to shore

The ribbon snoek/ frost fish are actually quite nice to eat but you need the bigger ones to get some proper meat off!
They are caught in 10's of tons at a time by stern trawlers..... i have seen a net full of 40 tons of these fish before!
