West Coast Safety

Hi Guys

Just to let the guys that fish the west coast.  I know there are a few bad dudes that hang around on mountain bikes  in the Hakgaat area of Melkbosstrand.  I was on my own there one afternoon during the week and this guy was watching me from up on the dunes near the car park and decides to make a call on his cell.  He was definitely out of place.  Didn't feel right.  He new I had made him but I decided to pack up and go home anyway. Probably calling his minibus taxi pals.

It really sucked cos it was an ideal day with a wet NW blowing.

Watch you backs!!!!

Thanx Malt.... it's times like these i wish guys would start using technology.... there is something im working on. You pay a monthly fee and you press a panic alarm and the cavalry are on their way and not the usual security people you think of.

It will have a panic, 4 voice calls, the ability for a control centre to call you and listen in etc....

These guys will only go away if they get caught by the right people...

Hi Marthin

Sounds like a good idea. I once had to go into a very tricky situation when I was still at varsity. It was before cell phones but I had a 50c piece and the phone number on a scrap of paper. I was told to phone the number and ask to speak to "Irish".

He had been told approximate whereabouts and I need only tell him which phone booth I was at.

It put a huge spring in my step.

(I never had to call him in the end.)

This really sucks - I was planning a mission on Monday. I will still go, but thanks for the heads up.

Monday does look good if the weather sticks to the forecast.
I was thinking of Duynefontain. Some nice Steenbras coming out over the last few weeks. A bit far out to go after work thou.

I have the day off, so have the entire day to scratch around. Where have the Steenies been coming out?

Thats pretty sh!tty guys. And what do they want from us anyway? I dont own a firearm, but is armed with my old rocket flares. I have once shot one approximately 200m from a rock, and it actually busted that rock!!! Ive been told by my neighbour ex cop that they are quite potent. Personally I enjoy fishing alone as I can do and move as I please, and the mates are being governed by their so called better halves most of the time. Still not nice being watched by suspicious okes tho. I remember being a teenager camping next to swartkops river overnight sleeping with the rods outside in the water and nothing to worry about. Where are those days gone??? Anyway chaps, keep it safe and always be aware of your surroundings.

Aaaaaai man !!!! ja seen them up and down there before - i always try not to go alone and i always find my self looking around more than trying to relax !!

i must say i have seen the Police on more than one occasion drive in and out the diffrent spots along Table View to Melkbos

best solution is try and fish in numbers - not always possible but maybe bit better !!!

I've been bouncing in Table View for the past 12 years the 'NEW` police don't give a fek, fished Bontkop and Haakgat where my buddies cars have been broken into thanks to either the tik koppe from Atlantis or the rich Tikkop kids from Melkbos or Duynefontein, its the truth, nowdays you have to get dropped off by your buddy or your vrou at the spots which actually don't really produce, would loce to set something up and bury the bastards in the dunes tired of the crime in the area,I grew up in Table view since 1989 the crime has never been this bad ever since the bastards got kicked outa Sea point years ago, just go look at the 7 11 outside the CBC school not even 30 meters from the school you can't even buy a loaf of bread without the drug dealers approaching you,not one but about 10,and the cops are in on it seen it over and over, thank god I'm staying away from Darklands now, TSEK

I fished this area for the last month or 2 biggest steenie was 46cm the biggest steenie I saw there in this time was 50cm so iam not sure if there's any size steenies there I've tagged a couple of fish there but all undersize. I would rather try 3de steen.

oh man - sounds like my relaxing day next to the waters isn't shaping up. What a damn shame a man can't simply go and fish without having to watch his back, bakkie and everything else that isn't strapped to him.

I'm not to sure, there are still a few good cops there, I've seen them sort out some of these okes and they don't mess around.

I have however seen the odd van coming from Tableview side down to kreefte.. one even with the blue light on and siren flashing, just to pull in and chill for a while at the parking area..maybe they did'nt like the traffic.
