Hi Serra Moz

I like your ski vee boat, who is it made by?

Thanks for the info on Moz, thinking Xai Xai maybe - is this the place where that DVD Goodtimes was filmed?

How is Chidenguele for diving?

We will take up a smalll ski boat to dive off with one motor so offshore reefs are not a problem.

Thanks for the info so far

Got any nice fish lately?fish  very quiet in CapeTown

@ Pelagic Ski Vee(Origianal Olufson)- Too be honest JohnF are correct about going to sea with a single motor and yes, Chidenguele is really remote, basically you will be on your own mate. (I was refering to Shore Entry Dives)Xai Xai....can be very danagerous too as you got to thru the "gap" passed thru there with experienced commercial fishtermen. There use to be a few S.African commercial fisherman who use to go spearing from to time to time, however I think the person that I am thinking of moved to Inhassoro. JohnF is spot on (As Always...LOL) You could try Inhaca (Take the ferry 200 meticais one way) - the Lighthouse ect...Inhaca isn't that expensive try Manico Camp (00 258 82 586 1207) They have tent or chalets, very good prices. At Manico Camp there's young local barman (Mario) ask him about spearing his whole family is into spearing - his uncle is a legend!

Hi Guys thanks for the info.

The thing about one engine is a bit of a debatable item i think, but our boat will have a single engine with a smaller mounted standby engine incase the main ones stops working.

We dived Pomene for a week like this on a rubber duck and never had to use the standy, as far as I know in 15 years of boating only once did we use a standy engine. The main engines prop started slipping as the rubber inside stripped as we had a lot of yellow tail in the boat, luckly we where only about 1 km from the harbour and we just putted back home and enjoyed the slooooow cruise.

It is defenantly better to have 2 engines if you are launching throught the surf etc which I hope we wont have too.

Have you guys dived at Ponta malongane? Surf launch - would this be a safer bet for us to go as we wont go further than 1mile out? and its a shorter drive from Cape Town.

Thanks for the info so far

The best I can mate..........

Below from a BBC Website:

Although it extends outside the tropics, in the extreme south the whole country has a typically tropical climate. The extensive coastal lowlands are warm to hot for most of the year, while the interior plateau and the hills along the border with Malawi and Zimbabwe are mild to warm even in the cooler dry season from April to September.

The warm Mozambique current flows southwards along the coast and is an important influence on the climate of the country. The whole country experiences a single rainy season at the time of high sun, when the intertropical belt of cloud and rain is farthest south.

The wettest regions are the highlands on the Malawi and Zimbabwe borders and the southeast coast between Beira and Maputo, which are more exposed to the southeast trade winds throughout the year. Here annual rainfall is between 1,000 mm/40 in and 1,500 mm/60 in. The driest areas are the lowlands inland, particularly the Zambesi valley, with between 500-750 mm/20-30 in. In some places the annual rainfall is as low as 375 mm/15 in.

In the south most of the rain falls between December and March but farther north this period lengthens by a few weeks. The coast of northern Mozambique is occasionally affected by tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean. These move south between Madagascar and the mainland, but the majority pass east of Madagascar and hardly affect Mozambique. These cyclones bring heavy rain and strong winds that can cause extensive damage.

One reason for the comparatively low rainfall over much of the coastal lowlands is the shelter provided by the large mountainous island of Madagascar, which is fully exposed to the moist southeast trades. The eastern side of Madagascar is particularly wet when compared with Mozambique.

Temperatures on the coast and in some lowland regions can be rather sultry and oppressive, and this is made worse by the high humidity during the rainy season. Although the days may be hot inland at higher levels, there is a welcome drop in temperature at night and humidity is lower. Over most of the country the weather is fairly sunny for much of the year with an average of seven to nine hours of sunshine per day.

malongane has camping sites, 4 man chalets as well as 6 man chalets. The camping area has large camp sites all with power. the Ablutions are basic but cleaned throughout the day. take own Toilet paper though.

Dont know about spearing but the launch through the surf is not for beginners. It can be easy at times but some big swells stand up at the back. Definitely not on one small motor.

Contact two-bar.co.za for accommodation enquiries.

Malagane is a good spot with a boat but the launch can get gnarly especialy if you not used to surf launches. Ponta itself launch is a bit more friendly but you will still need some horse power.

If you go to this area make sure you get some GPS marks before you go, you'l pay school fees otherwise. The shoreline all looks the same so no prominent land marks, you will spend a lot of time looking for the hot spots.

Inhaca has no surf launch to speak of but you still got to get your boat accross the bay to get to the Island and on a bad day the bay gets realy ugly (can also be like a dam on a good day).

Once you on Inhaca the run to the spearing spots is quite far (15km +).Bonus about Inhaca is most of the main spots are on the chart so you not going to spend days working out where the reef is.

Easter period has usualy been pretty good to me weather wise
