Lol. Why welding wire? Why not 10lb steel or just go up to 0.80 nylon hookline. Ive never used steel for shad.

Use .9mm in summer (when the small shad are here) and 60lb in the winter for the BIG shad! They do not bite throw the 60lb very easy! The big shad are very abel to bite throw nylon!

Roland a 5kg plus blouelf in the southern cape will bite off nylon like a knife in butter.

I've seen traces used for blouelf in the southern cape that would look more appropriate on a slide!

Depends where u'r fishing, 50lb steel knots beautifully.

Dont waste your time trying to figure out wether it works or not it will cost you a fish.

Theres a couple of things which one has to think about look.Just look at what you spent to get there.

Reel av R1000
Rod av R1500
Line av R200
sinkers swivel hooks per trace R20
Petrol R100
Bait R200
Vechile R100 000

+-R103020 before you fish

Now tell me why do you wana waist your time with a peice of wire laying in the garage just go buy the proper stuff at the tackle shop or see if you can get it cheaper at another.although i just buy it at the closest tackle store even tho they bit more expensive reason ,you end up driving more petrol out getting to the other tackle store and its further which also means more time waisted.

Sorry to be so blunt but thats me.

Hi CEO

I am also accused of being blunt but I too am intrigued by trying out different apparati for fishing.

Assuming you have caught an elf or 2 your mind might wander over to the "I wonder if....?" state.

I noticed on an American fishing forum that an angler caught an elf ("bluefish") by rigging a silicone phallus shaped sex aid as a lure.

I am not sure of what made him turn to the device for fishing or how he was able to cast out a d...o as a lure but I salute his ingenuity.

The other contributors on the forum had used cigar tubes but President Clinton has stripped those of innocence as well.

I would say try anything that u want innovation there is no problem with it u never know unless u try that's what i love about fishing. One year at a well known fishing village we struggled to get even one byte with al the bait u can think of an old toppie told me i must leave the fancy bait and tackle at home and bring the small rod light ball sinkers and a tub or 2 chicken livers and man was this fun. So u will never know until u try it.

Hi  abdul 786

I always keep a piece of house elec wire, the red thick one in my tackle bag,if i get a bite off or you know the elf are around remove hook slide a 2 to 3 inch piece of the elec wire(after the inside copper wire is removed )over my line replace the hook and ready to go.A bit of red bling and no more steel trace etc...works for me.

If you forget your elec wire at home look around on the beach always plastic lollie pop sticks laying around use that.

cheers   Johan

The size of the Elf currently feeding will bite thru any plastic.

One must remember the moment tenstion builds on your trace is when it is most suseptable to being bitten off. Elf when hooked shake their heads when hooked thus cutting u'r trace.

4Me 50pound thin coated trace just in case theres kob around to. Better safe than sorry.

Tight lines and happy Elving LoL

i agree with ben...

there are some big blues showing up along false bay, be safe and use 50lbs minimum bite trace. piano wire also works.

the sliding of an electrical wire tube will also but for the smaller fish only.

a while back i had light tackle fun targeting elf with a 30lbs steel trace, had to replace it after after 2-3 fish.

Im all for being innovative.Johan its called Sleeve protector i use them just some stores dont stock cause they dont sell well. You also get some with foam underneath so it serves two purposes. The only problem with the plastic sleeve coating on electric wire its to soft.I'll see if i can get a pick of what i put on my snoek lines.Much harder plastic.

So yes im all for being innovative but being innovative one thing ,reinventing the wheel is another. With so many products on the market we cant help buy trying to get the best setup. As most youngsters who start want get the best to catch the biggest.Where you'll proberly find and Ou gesout man standing next to you and more than likely will out fish your setup 9 times out of 10

Fishing has been around for who know how long and our fathers fathers have caught stink loads of elf cob what with proved tryed and tested methods. The one you see in the books no fancy christmass trimmings nothing.

Although todays technology has seen improvement in just about everything .The rods ,the reels the line the hooks. But the basic trace remains the same an unchanged.

So most fisherman go out they know what species they targeting and they go prepared no time to look for any lolipop sticks, electric wire.

Now if you looking for lolipop sticks and electric wire before you go fish maybe you should take up recycling.Just jokes:hyst::hyst:

Anyways good luck hope you catch a big one none the less:wfish
