Hi All

Just want to share this picture of a nice carp I caught on the vaalriver.

We hired one of those houseboats for two days...

Absolutely worth it, just a bit too expensive.

I would also like to put a question out there :

Where would the biggest size carps be found,Vaalriver or Vaaldam?

Nice fish there, i've been thinking about hiring out one of those boats for the weekend. I think i will do it this spring! Had a family home at Loch Vaal for 25 years so fished the river a lot, but not the dam. So can't tell you where the bigger ones come out. Lots of small carp in the river comapred to the occasional 5-10kg fish. I think they are bigger down-stream of the Barrage though. Seen big ones in the rapids a lot when fly-fishing for yellows.

Thanks VB-Jones

You'll def enjoy the houseboat...
Just a bit expensive like I mentioned, but worth every penny....

We normally fish in the vaaldam, but have heard of big carp coming out of the river..

Trying to post more pics but they too big.
Caught this carp on Chick-Peas at just after 06:30 in the morning....line was in the water the whole night.

He didn't even give a fight, but think the fish was still fast asleep just like me and the water a bit too cold...

We hired one of Old Willow No. 7's houseboats....

Boat house - that is best fishing . 5 star fishing - style .
With buddies , lots of beer,  good food, jokes and fishing of course.
Far away from wife and kids .... just joking  :hyst:

We hook boat house next to sunken tree or we fish at overflow , lots of fish  depth 1- 7m

This sounds very pricy . but - worth it for sure

some of my pics

Thanks Goomble

It took us few hours firstly to find where to anker the boat house. You need fish finder. The best place is where is deeper ( around 4 - 5m)  and if there is any structure under - sunken tree is best.
Then what we do - we get empty coca cola bottle 2 L , drill few 1mm holes ( like 50 )
Fill up with molasses - put some sinkers inside bottle - tie with rope and drop it from the side of boat house all the way to bottom. Check every 2 hrs and fill if needed. Cheap molasses you can buy from Midfeeds agricultural supplies ( 25 L around R 180.00) - in summer add green fluorescence powder to the molasses and you will have plenty of Carp and Grass carp swimming around .
