I'm am going to the vaal rivier this weekend .I want to now what bait to use . I after big fish.!

I know there is a lot of muddies so you can use dough made with luke water and icing suger put it on plain you will catch big muddies and i know a corn pip with  dough  at the back will also do

carp head! no better bait. Use the head of a carp around 1kg, you can cut it in 1/2 or just use the whole head after you've softened it up a bit with a rock. Put a big (5/0) hook through the eyes and cast it out. Then hold on...

Go to a dealer that supplies Magic baits and get some Boorgat floaties & bom dip as well as some Gold medal floats, remember to post pic of the fish!!!!

Hi

I fished the Vaal river a while back and me and my fishing partners had some success with muddies, carps and catfish/barbel.

• For the muddies we used the normal carp setup with supercast groundbait and plain sweet dough with just one of the hookbaits dipped in pink sweets dip.[/*]
• For carp we used the same setup as for the muddies (regular conventional setup) with supercast groundbait and plain sweet dough with a little bit of almond supreme on the groundbait and one of the hookbaits dipped in tjop-tjop.[/*]
• For the catfish we just used a carp head and that worked well.[/*]

Biggest carp was 12.5 kg, Barbel was 9 kg and the largest muddy was just under 2 kg.
The weather conditions was nice with no rain and comfortable temperatures.

It was a Wolwespruit, near to Leeudoringstad and upstream of Bloemhof dam. I'm sure if you do a search it should show up.

I would try 1 pinksweets floati on the top hook and plain dough on the bottom then for the bom i will add 1 drop supercast vicks(supercast) with one line of oxblood(supercast) or lootie(supercast) with a line of fx also.

 

i would also try plain floaties and on the bom i would try 1 drop of gumtree on the bom with a pineapple dip and a line of fx on the bom also.
