Using Stockings

Have been giving it some thought fore some time now, and saw some rather large Yank chop using stockings for shark fishing, where they prepare a bait by chopping chumlets of bloody fish and stuffing it into stockings, adding a circle to the mix.

Should yield good results for crackers aswell. Stuffing stockings with either freshly cut redbait or a lekker cracker platter of lemoene, siffies, ollies and any piece of harde aas you could find.

Same for cobbies, with lekker chocka mash gemoerde stuffings. Imagine the scent, and the odours created and "sticking" to the material stockings.

No more little machinegun squad destroying well prepared baits in seconds....

Any thoughts?

I saw this method getting used on a fishing show on Discovery, looked really effective, and it should stop the craps and other fish from chowing your bait, I think it would work abit better for sharks as they don't really give a dam about bait presentation, iv also given it some thought, but how much does a stocking cost anyway, should be interesting to see male fisherman buying stockings

it was a great idea, I think katonkel tom has made redbait sausages for cracker before... to be honest I think blacktail etc will easily get through a stocking

Yip Aqua, we have used stockings for cracker! It just gives them a chance to get to the bait before the peckers demolish everything!Just make sure the stockings arent the scented ones!!;)

should work.. also to remind y'all of bamboo.. stuff it with whatever bait and last say 5 - 10cm stuff with sea sand on either side and throw in spot to release chum

fish / crabs cant get to bait through rubbery bamboo if fresh bamboo and not vrot bamboo and slow steady release of red bait / pilchard / or my favourite sand lice that are found in their hundreds around rotting bamboo in the sand..

dont do it as much as i should but this post serves as a reminder to me to try anything and everything to get that pull

It helps, but the little peckers still get to the bait, so you still have to check the bait regularly.

A good idea is to still have an occie leg or something equally 'hard' as carrier for pillies/mussel/whatever.

So, yeah, it does buy one a bit of time...

And if things are a bit slow on the day, I soak the used stocking in anchovy oil. So as to also make sure she will not try and recycle it for further wear, hahaha!
