Undersize Shad

I spent some time at Inyoni Rocks at 'toti this morning watching a dozen or fifteen fisherman catching some shad. There were about 40 or 50 that they were keeping alive in the rock pools and not one was a legal size. Such a pity.

I scattered my late aunts ashes there a few years ago, I hope she haunts the hell out of all of them.

There are a lot of poor subsistence fishermen on our coast who need these undersized and over the limit fish to supplement the repayments on the double cab with chrome wheels in the parking lot.

That's not fair - what about the SUV's?

And while we are on the subject:
- what about the poor Chinese who need to pay for their trawlers
-what about the poor corrupt officials who look the other way?

It urks me to the core that R&S are limited but the trekkers have RIGHTS to trek the elf to mur and gone legally in the WC....

But who can blame them..look what the big chiefs are doing..We have been saying that DAFF is fishy all these years but no doubt they are..Everyone hold your breath for 2018's regulations that will completely reflect the situation on the ground and the current state of stocks and a reaction in that regard. Ja right..it seems if you were previously disadvantaged (I grew up in joburg, does that not disadvantage me enough?) and have cash to flash, you can get to help you self to any stock or forest you have your eye on. Nevermind if the stocks are nursery stocks or depleted and nevermind if the forests are mature and paid for with tax money, on common public land..? Eish..I've always maintained that we need a big bonfire for commercial fishing nets, from the fleets and trekkers, I now reckon that some public officials also deserve to go down in flames...

Oh ja and the undersize shad..I just give up in this country and try to tell the lighties what is the way forward, it is hard getting through the current plunder for now mentality that pervades..maybe some stocks survive so the youngsters can fix things? Lets hope the ugly evils guys in charge messing it up for everyone, don't clone themselves and keep on keep on..which BTW is entirely doable these days, just not legal..so I wonder what the future holds haha..but ja the shad..

dis juis hoekom ons MPA's het. ongelukkig vir die elwe bly hulle nie op een plek nie, maar toer deur die land....ok see.

dit bly n lekker eetvis, veral daai 2,5-4kg lywe!!!
mooi dik fillets daai.
en daai belly wat oorbly is dodelik vir n dagga!!!!

Daai 2-4kg shad se belly gaan gou gou in my belly, saam met n bietjie wasabi, soy en tuis gemaak mayo, ek moet anders gebruik om n dagga te vang

I live here and have given up. I moved from the Eastern Cape where we put the garrick back. My kid was harassed to give them his undersized shad, but he stil threw them back. He got a lot of abuse. Those pools do take that much...40...they arent always kept alive.
