Two stroke oil

I decided to buy bulk because getting 500ml pints every time at the yard gets expensive. Now I got 25l for R815 which works out to R33/l which is much better than R50/l or whatever. It's like a no-name brand though but looks, feels and smells exactly like the castrol or what have you I used previously.

Sure some oils have special additives but does it really matter? 2 stroke is 2 stroke right?

I spoke to Bernie at Mafuta. He recons the guys run normal 2-stroke oil, but once a year or 500 hours they run one tank with some or other blend that has a teflon in it. The teflon coats the moving parts and protects the cylinders.

Thanks Bennie! Oil is not something you normally factor into running costs but after a few 60nm runs I'm starting to realize the oil cost.
cheers!

I always use shell nautilus. sure its not quicksilver or any of those, but its also not those prices. There is some difference between the 2 strokes, for bikes mowers and outboards. Try but y an outboard type. The yamahas you got probably dont care, just give them oil and they happy.

The commercials have been buying 2 stroke in bulk for years and dont seem to be complaining, so it should be just fine!

If you guys are interested there are a few petrol stations in the cape that give free 2 stroke depending on how much fuel you put in, the station in Glencairn gives one bottle for every 50 Litres of fuel you put in, I fill the bakkie up at the same time and then get oil for that too...... i have four strokes on the boat, so i am collecting the oil at home!

Look for a TCW-3 rating on the outboard oil . That seems to be the safe minimum spec rating that major outboard manufacturers require .
